    Athlon Helos BTR any good?

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2 4-20x50. The price seems alright but don’t want it if it won’t track properly or hold a zero

    Rokslide Special 223 recipe

That’s an interesting way to do it. I have been shooting 3 round groups at various powder charges looking for a node. If I have a load that shows promise I then move to a 10 shot group. I used to load atleast 5 rounds at each charge weight but I figured if 3 rounds don’t group to my liking...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Well hopefully I can get some more data to share this season. I picked up a t3x varmint in .223 the other day and the 73gr eldm with 24gr of varget is showing some promise. I’m going to load up some more and make sure it’s repeatable and run some over a chronograph then it’s time to get some...

    Rokslide Special 223 recipe

Well I loaded up a few rounds last night and tried them out today. 73gr eldm some cheap leftover brass that I had from a different project and some Varget and a COAL of 2.260 only 3 round groups so far but 24gr looks promising so I will load up 10 or 20 more and see if it’s repeatable and run...

    Rokslide Special 223 recipe

Sorry to jump in on this but I just purchased a tikka t3x varmint .223 that I am going to load some 73gr eldm’s in. I have 8 lbs of varget on hand that I am hoping to use but I’m not sure if I will have to compress my loads to much. Not getting top end velocities isn’t a game changer but I was...

    Terminal performance: 69tmk vs 77tmk?

Thanks a bunch but I haven’t found a store yet that will ship from the US to Canada. I did manage to find a place in Canada finally with some 73gr eldm’s in stock that I can try out for now

    Terminal performance: 69tmk vs 77tmk?

Sorry I know this is an old thread but would the 20-30% loss in penetration be a deal breaker on large white tail and mule deer. I know the 77 is ideal but I can’t find any 77’s or gold dots or 73 eldm’s. I’m picking up a 8 twist tikka varmint this week and I’m looking for a bullet for targets...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Thanks for the info. I’m hoping I can find a couple bullets that I can actually get my hands on that people have been having good results with on game performance. 95% of my shooting with this rifle will be on steel and coyotes but I don’t want to have to switch loads when I do decide to go...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I see it’s not on this list but so far I have read of a few people using the Hornady 75gr bthp with good success. Would this be a good option or should I keep looking for other options.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

sorry if it has been asked a bunch but so far I am only 80 some pages deep on this so it might take awhile to get right through. I will be picking up a tikka stainless varmint with a 8 twist .223 barrel on it. I have been seeing conflicting opinions on if the 75 eldm will work with a factory mag...

    Wind meter

I am getting into longer range hunting and I think my next purchase needs to be a wind meter. I am thinking of getting a kestrel but I don’t know which one to buy. I don’t want to buy the most expensive one around if I’m not going to use half of the features but I also don’t want cheap out and...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

If I hit bone with them I had great results but on clean broadsides shots with only rib bones hit damage was minimal. I shot 1 mule doe at around 150 yards broadside with the 100gr tsx in a 257 weatherby. She showed zero signs of even being hit and then she ran about 75 yards and fell over dead...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

I thought I might add that I have tried the Barnes ttsx in 300 win mag 257 weatherby .243 and the tsx in the 257 also. In my experience if you can keep the velocity high the Barnes bullets kill just fine with a well placed shot and I am a fan of them when I’m hunting for meat but if I’m looking...

6mm /.243 hunting success on Big Game

This was quite a few years ago but this is a mule deer I shot with a .243 and 80gr Barnes ttsx bullets. Shot was around 200 yards broadside. One picture is the exit wound. Deer went about 30 yards and fell over dead. It’s a bigger bodied deer than it looks in the pictures. I didn’t have any...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

My province used to be restricted to 24 cal but that has since been changed. It is legal now to use the .223

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

I have been reading through this thread but it’s going to take awhile before I get all the way. It seems you have a lot of experience with both 22 cal and 6mm’s. I currently have rifles chambered for both but I’m looking at picking up another one with a faster twist to shoot heavier for cal...

    New caliber debate

I really like the sounds of a 22 creed the thing making me think .223 over the creed is the almost double barrel life. I am also in Canada and finding cheap barrels isn’t as easy here
