    The Future of Idaho

Several things could cause lower success rates, which we assume correlate to dwindling Mule deer herds. Weather events (extreme temps, droughts, floods), poor mast crops, invasive vegetation (I see a lot on cheat grass), non-human predation, habitat loss, etc. are all factors—not just increased...

CO cancels mountain lion season mid season.

Agreed. Once they get a foothold and momentum in a few states, which is happening before out eyes, these anti-hunters are going to start flipping states left and right.

Black Bear, Wolf, Mt Lion calling - in Idaho grizzly country

I'm looking to do the black bear, wolf, and mt. lion this spring. I considered getting elevated in a tree too for predator calling, but then again I don't want to carry that much more stuff in with me though. As the time nears, I'll see what my pack in weight is looking like.

B.C black bear in 2024, flying with meat, hide, and skull?

This thread is perfect timing. I have been researching about how to fly back with meat from a spring bear hunt myself. Mine would all be in the US though.

The do it all self-defense pistol

Hellcat Pro but overall agree with spike camp. I like, 10mm but it isn't my preferred summer carry pistol for the city.

    First big gear purchase?

My absolute first big purchase was a set of Lowa boots, then I got an external frame backpack, and a set of quality 10x binoculars. If I had to do it again I would have bought the binoculars first with a good bino harness, then boots.

    Nissan Titan PRO-4X

Those Nissan Titans are nice. I'd like to get one, but the cash isn't there for a new(er) truck at the moment. I wouldn't worry about it being discontinued next year.

Energizer or Coleman Walmart specials. I always look for the ones that have at least a white and red light.

Let’s talk temp ranges for layers…

If its still (no wind) and no precipitation I walk into my spots just in base layers. When I get to my spot I want to set up, or where I am going to really put on a stalk, I put on my next layer. Then, if I intend on sitting I'll add bibs if its in the 20s or lower, or 30s and windy. Otherwise...

When does everyone think is the best time to sell/buy vehicles?

140,000km (~87k miles) isn't a lot to me, so I'd keep driving it. If you're concerned about rust you can do preventive measures to slow rust. If you're handy, you can even repair it. Otherwise, save your pennies, sell your truck and accept the current new/used vehicle pricing. It's a damned...

What's the deal with everyone using suppresors?

Agreed. Much easier on the hearing too. I don't wear hearing protection hunting big game--or turkeys. So while I know it isn't good, it's still much easier on your hearing than not suppressed. Kinda like getting that Big Mac but ordering a diet coke to wash it down. And shooting a suppressed...
