5 lb 5 oz Backcountry Rifle Set-up. All stock.

I just got my Ultra Light Arms Model 20 in .284 Win. Bare weight is about 5 pounds 2 ounces. Now looking at lightweight scopes, which will weigh around 13 ounces. I figure a total of 6# or a touch more when ready for deer and elk. Push a 160-grain Accubond at 2900fps. Good to go.

I grabbed this one with the phone this morning on the way back home from town. Home is over the top of the right hand fence post.

    Old dudes and old photos.

Silly picture, but I sure had hair back then! Remington 600. Probably in 6mm Remington, but we also had 6.5 Rem Mag and .350 Rem. Mag. Yeah. Trigger finger. I know. About 1977, or so.

This camera has been on hunts all over the world. It has shot a lot of magazine photos and a few covers. I started using it in 1964, when I was 13, shooting pictures for my Dad's books and magazine articles. Just gotta love a large negative. ;)

    .25 Cal (Quarter Bore) / Big Game Success - 25 Creed, 25-284, 25-06, 25 PRC, 25 SAUM

It was made by a gunsmith named Morton. Dad bought it used, but he tracked down the maker and wrote to him to get more info. Dad desvribed the rifle, including the white plastic foreend tip. Morton wrote back with details, including that the tip isn’t plastic. It’s ivory. ;). Beautiful...

Oh. On the photo of the Ruger No. 1, if you zoom in, just over the scope, you’ll see my plane parked off the airstrip on the Middle Fork in Idaho.

My mother’s “.25 Roberts.” At least, that’s what’s stamped on the barrel. A custom rifle made in the late ‘40s or early ‘50s. It was the first centerfire rifle I fired. I’ve always had a soft spot for the .257 Roberts. Now down to only two, since I gave Mom’s rifle to my son. :)

Remington - Ilion, NY plant closing

I hope they keep and move a lot of the history. It’s been many years since I walked the oil-soaked floors at Illion. The company has a fascinating slot in American industrial history. Loved the museum and the custom shop. I picked out a stunning stick of wood there for my LH 700 Mountain...
