    Quilt vs Bag

I’ve used both. I like carrying the quilt but like sleeping in a bag. It’s just personal preference. I feel cozier and less drafty.

    Favorite quilt for September

I bought the Featherstone moo i wanted to try a quilt without spending a lot so I got the Featherstone moondance 25 on sale for $160. It keeps me warm to about freezing. I like the weight savings but I actually prefer sleeping in a sleeping bag.

Low budget backpacking quilt or bag

Check out outdoor vitals. I have their 0 degree down bag. But they also make quilts. Be sure to look at their clearance and pre-owned section for the best deals.

    Less expensive hot tent?

I use a Durston x-mid 2p and I saw someone add a stove jack themselves to the tent in the vestibule area. It’s something I’m considering if I want to make my own hot tent someday. I use the inner mesh when there are bugs and leave it at home when there aren’t.

Ideas on new shelters - need some opinions.

My favorite thing about the x-mid is that you don’t have to use guy lines to set it up like other trekking pole tents. I’ve had people trip on my guy lines in the past and knock my tent down on me in the middle of the night.

I also have a Durston x-mid 2p. If there are no bugs, I leave the inner mesh at home to save weight and bring the footprint for a floor.

I’m new to calling too and am watching YouTube videos for help. I had to try several diaphragms to find one that works for my mouth.

    Backcountry hunt pack weight

I use the app PackLight to log my gear. Then I can play around with different packing lists to see how my weight changes depending on different situations and gear choices. Then I train with about 10 lbs more than my expected pack in weight.
