Good thread and I'll continue to follow - Certainly don't want to hijack the thread, but came to start researching the same thing. My wife is currently sitting on 14 points, so appears any of these hunts are doable for 2017. She's pretty adamant of harvesting one with her bow, however the early...

Rhinehart 18-1 if you can swing it. It works great to place in / on a pack and take a day hike with. Roll it down that hill and shoot it where it stops, as it will help with your yardage estimation as well.
My $0.02 to this would be answer ( D ) all the above. Growing up, wood was pretty much all that was readily available. The safe is full of mid 70's early 80's Rem 700 BDL's. My first synthetic didn't come along until the late 80's in a Rem 700SS Mtn Rifle chambered in .280. Since I've added...
I've used a Carter Just-B-Cuz for the past five years to hunt with. You've realized one of the largest issues with hunting with a hand held if you will, rather than a strap. Climber chalk bags work well to attach to your pack, however most are brightly colored. My generally ends up in my right...
A few years back Sportsman's had a Rem700SS "on sale" - it was just one that was on sale, and after asking what caliber, it came home with me on the spot. .257Bee w/ 26in tube. I worked up a load using the 110 Accubond, then decided it needed pillar bedded into a pepper laminated stock. Needless...
I've had three of the Pronghorn rests at one time, as well as my son using one on his competition bow for JOAD the last 5 years.
Over the five years, he's had two broken springs - I've come to keep an extra in the equipment bag when we go to events. Darn easy to change and swap out if that's...
I have yet to see many 7-08's that are finicky. I have one of the early Remington 700 Varminters that has always shot about anything I've sent down the tube really well. I've taken elk with 120, 140, & 150 grain ballistic tips. Also pre-ballistic tip era, the 150gr SMK was the go to bullet with...
May 9th will be the third tournament of five for the RMAA target series.
The Spot Safari will be held at Columbine Bowmen Archery Range. This is a unique experience to shoot a tournament designed after the Western Classic Trail Tournament held in Redding, CA each year. The course will consist...
My Son is 12, and has had a Youth Rem 700 chambered in 7-08 now for a couple years. With that said, I have a pair of 7-08's & .260's. My wife has a youth model 7 in .260. The other two are Rem 700 in BDL Varminter configurations. Not that there is anything wrong with the model 7, however if I...
I'm probably with Ryan on the deafness scale. Shot a lot of bench rest growing up, and hearing protection just wasn't heard of.
As I stated earlier, the brake on my .280 is brutal without hearing protection. Due to that, it sits in the safe, and is going to be a donor platform for a 6.5-06AI.
Justin is correct on the Vias if you're prone in loose ground material.
My major consideration at the time, was it had to be the same diameter as the barrel - I don't like the look of the increased diameter brakes over the barrel diameter.
I also have a brake on a M700 mountain rifle in .280...
I have a stable (safe) full of Rem700's, it's just this .17 has more sentimental value to me. My mother used to shoot it, and shot it well when we used to do a lot of whistle-pig hunting. She bought if for my dad, and the matching big brother to this .17 is a 7mag. Identical twins short of the...
tstowater -thank you, It's definitely hard to let the 1500 or so 25gr Hornady bullets I have sit and look for something else. The little experience I do have with this round, I've found to have more runners than I like. ( Coyotes, jack rabbits, p-dogs, etc ) I don't save pelts, so my main go to...
