How many of you use a hinge release (back tension) for hunting? I'm in the process of making the transition from a traditional wrist strap to a carter two moons. So far I like it and think it is working to help some of my target panic and bad habits. I know a lot of guys switch back and forth but I don't want to do that if necessary.

For you guys that hunt with a hinge or thumb release how do you carry it? Do you put it in a pocket or strap it to your wrist?

I've used a Carter Just-B-Cuz for the past five years to hunt with. You've realized one of the largest issues with hunting with a hand held if you will, rather than a strap. Climber chalk bags work well to attach to your pack, however most are brightly colored. My generally ends up in my right pocket / right cargo pocket. I have a back up that is always in my pack as well, as I have walked away from the truck only to realize my release is still sitting in the front seat.

For the last 2 years I've been shooting with and hunting with a Stan Element pull through release and doing pretty well, two for two on cow elk. I am switching over to a Scott Backspin and have been shooting with it for the last few months. I'm really liking the Backspin and shooting better than ever so I plan on giving it a go for this years elk hunt and some 3D shoots. I do know that for me to hunt with this style of release, I have to tell myself to "execute the shot" and not get in any hurry to get the shot off.

Bring this back to the top. I'm curious to get more input from people who've hunted with a hinge release.

I have been hunting with my hinge (Truball HT) the last 2 years and it has been awesome. I haven't ran into any of the issues like moving animals, not getting the release to go off etc. As long as you practice with it constantly during the off season, when it comes time to shoot an animal the shot will come second nature to you. I carry mine in my hip pocket and carry a back up in my pack. The wrist straps don't work IMO as the release is big and cumbersome and swings around like crazy while walking.
