Without knowing any more specifics about general hunting type, I vote binoculars. They're going to be with you 99.9999% of the time. Go look through everything you can get your hands on, ideally outdoors, and use that to make a decision. Heck, I wouldn't be afraid to rent a few pieces of glass...
My "day" pack weight is ~25lbs excluding bino harness & weapon. It includes everything to spend a reasonably comfortable night out down to about 20 degrees. If I know there is essentially no chance of staying out overnight, I'll usually drop the sleeping bag, pad, bivy, and cook kit, which will...
The only two things that come to mind in 2024 are:
Seek Outside DST, silpoly version. It's an absolute palace for one person and gear.
Flextail 2X Pump - So convenient for inflating your sleeping pad. The added lantern feature gives enough light to your tent so you don't have to use your...
My vote is the stove jack/one door option. I was already leaning in this direction, but was sold after the additional information you provided about the vestibule being in the middle. I think the option for a stove offers more benefits than a second door.
If someone wants a stove and two doors...
That should get you down there.
I've been considering adding a 40 degree quilt as well. Although, I'm looking at the Hammock Gear Burrow as I have a 20 degree from them and it's been fantastic. Plus, they're running a sale right now, and you should be able to get a 40 degree quilt for under...
Yes! If I'm not worried about bugs because of it being cold, I'll just sleep with the pad covering the mesh upper part. It works really well. And even with the mesh, it has never bothered me because it's so light.
@Grady I have the Ultralight Bivy. So it offers some light weather protection. The bug bivy would be more breathable, but you'd be trading a little bit of the weatherproofness.
@Grady, I have two flat tarps, the Seek Outside DST and the Borah Gear Solo tarp. I will use my trekking poles most of the time, unless there's a good natural object I can utilize.
If I was only going to have one tarp, it'd either be the DST or other similar 9'x9'-10'x10' square tarp. I find...
I like my tarp and bivy setup here in AZ. Too many things crawling around to not be enclosed in some form.
The only time I go floorless/not fully enclosed is when the night time temperatures are below freezing. I figure at that point, things shouldn't be moving enough to bother me.
The results speak for themselves. You aren't getting good broadhead flight, no matter how much adjustment you make. It doesn't matter what anyone else says.
I'd say the safest bet would be to get the 250/260 spine arrows. It's better to be overspined on a compound bow than underspined. I don't...
I don't even use the football clamp. I just use a prusik knot to secure. It holds it tight and I've never had it move. Plus, I can slide it to release the tension.
But yeah, at least cut/burn the excess.
Id think a decent pair of puffy pants would be just as warm, if not warmer than the aegismax bag. My understanding is the 1 pound bags are only rated to around 43 degrees at the lower limit.
You could always give it a try and let us know how it works out.
I like the Spot Hogg sights over the Black Gold. I think SH builds a more durable product. The Black Gold pins are better in my opinion.
I'd lean towards the Fast Eddie. I have one on my bow currently and it's been perfect.
I don't think 3rd axis is quite as big of a deal inside 25 yards...
Agreed with both statements here. Borah makes some fantastic gear. I have their Solo tarp that is 5.8x9. It's great for keeping a light shower, or the sun off you. If I was expecting a lot of rain or inclement weather, it would stay home. There's just not much room under it.
I'll also add the...
Bow setup has been the same as the last 2 years. It shoots really well for me and I'm mostly happy with it. The UV3 is leaving a lot to be desired with the pin brightness, so that's hopefully going to be swapped out soon.
- Mathews V3X 33, 75lbs @ 28.5", Landslyde/UV3 combo with the double pin...
I'd also take both and leave one in the truck. If I had a spotter going with me, I'd carry the 10x30s and then pull the spotter for a better look if needed.
