You have some of the most epic photos I’ve ever seen, it’s crazy to see what kind of hunting opportunities Montana had in those days.

I’ve helped with tags in that area multiple times, the way to hunt it is to get into the most accessible mountain area’s and cover distance by glassing from point to point.
There’s no amazing migration corridor, there’s deer in basically every canyon, they move like crazy during that rut and...
Idaho was literally killing it in 2015, prior to the 2016 winter, we had plenty of deer and some monsters on top of it.
Nothing needs to change, we just need a few good winters and to protect/restore what habitat we can.
Idahoans are so spoiled and want to limit their own opportunities, mostly...
It should still be easy to get a tag in Colorado, no reason to leave any accumulated knowledge in my opinion. Cannot imagine it’ll take more than 1 or 2 points for a tag in most previously otc units.
I got a gunholsters.inc custom chest holster and it’s not even noticeable to carry.
I’d recommend them if you end up doing it, super quality company, customer service and gear.
Mid-May should be fine, 39 is such a popular area with great access that it’s hunt-able just about the whole bear season.
I would also add that in a spring bear season pressure doesn’t really exist unless you’re in a heavily baited area. Not that many people get after it in the spot and stalk...
No quad, I’m the just poor, young and willing to suffer lol.
I’ll definitely have to mess with a framed pack to get it to fit and then hiking through brush uphill will be an experience.
Inevitable, every time I hike the mf area, I can imagine a scenario where I run into a roaming young grizz.
Will be interesting to see how they’ll affect the black bear population when they settle in, at the moment there’s a crazy amount of black bears in the mf drainages.
Nice cougar on the profile pick, spot and stalk in WA ?
The area I’ll be hunting will likely have pretty natural behaving bears, not much foot traffic anytime of the year, no roads either.
I’ll definitely s&s when the bears aren’t hitting my bait consistently, but I do like the idea of...
In my comments about this, i mentioned specifically the privatization of public land by for profit companies who will likely maintain, patrol and install these solar panels.
Seeing this sh*t activates my “montana log cabin” mode….
Thanks for the awesome advice, I think I’ll tough it out and pack the metal drum in.
I’m young and enjoy the physical pain of a hike lol.
How full do you usually fill a horizontal 55 gallon drum ? Are you filling so it’s past the hole in food or nearly parallel with hole.
Also generational...
I like the idea of digging a hole and covering with logs/brush.
And hopefully bears are everywhere, it’d be amazing to get one or maybe even two of the site.
To my knowledge, it’d be the first bear anyone in my recent family history has killed.
Thanks for the reply and advice.
I figured hauling a 55 gallon tub would be hell, but haven’t really seen other ways of doing so.
I’ll have to watch some YouTube and experiment with keeping birds and such off the bait.
Definitely planning on a satellite camera and nice ground blind.
I’ll add that I’m starting the process now and can promise I’m not half-assing any of this, I just trust you Rokslide guys for the best advice and shortening of my learning curve.
This will be my first time ever baiting for bears and I’ll be doing it in Central Idaho.
I’ll be backpacking in a barrel and the bait, probably .5 to 1.5 miles depending on where I feel is best.
Do you guys think a 55 gallon barrel is too big to get back that deep ? If so, what size are you...
