Thank you for the information. I’ll be up north a ways out from any towns. Is there much theft to be worried about? I will have a trailer possibly a tent I’ll be putting up.
Thank you for all the ideas. After years of tedious cleaning to try and get ounces of grind meat I finally tried them in the crock pot! Turned out great.
Is there a resource that maps out oil fields that are gated? I plan on getting to the state before season to try and get my bearings. In a unit with so many roads it’s very difficult to even try to google map a camp that will be out of the way and all right place to set up I’ve found.
We were given an elk heart this year. I cleaned it and vacuum packed it but it had a smell to it I’ve never noticed before. I didn’t cook it fresh because I want to cook it and try it myself before I ruin my family that loves heart. Hopefully you can keep trying and get a better outcome!
That’s unfortunate. Maybe there are just bad ones. Or it’s an acquired taste. Personally I cooked heart back strap and tenderloin up from my wife’s buck I could only tell the difference in texture. Taste was all basically the same to me at least.
Was it cleaned well? I’ve heard soaking them in milk can help. I spent much of my youth not keeping the heart. Then I’m not sure why I started and cook it for family and friends everyone loves it. I’m very particular on skinning out every little piece. I skin them inside and out basically...

As flustering as my home state is to draw or hunt general elk units…….. my experience is you may be driving away from elk to hunt wolves. Only half of my group got tags for 24 we didn’t even log in this year.
Tagging in as well for insight especially from anyone late rifle hunting as how was the weather. Here is a thread I had earlier in the year some gents were so kind as to give some tips.

If you’re hunting Oregon Rosie’s water isn’t an issue. It rains a lot there is water everywhere. If you want better success another state would be better. Sounds like your family has average statistics. It’s a general tag, the whole world gets and runs around the woods no matter who owns the...
Way cooler than diamonds in my book. Would have been divorce before the wedding in my wife’s book however! I would like to get a necklace or bracelet made out of some of her ivory’s
