I suspect that the military packs are made in the US to be Berry compliant, however the hunting packs are probably made in Vietnam.
I've noticed no difference in quality between the two sources.
Why does it matter where they are made if the quality and warranty are the same?
I run the non-padded version on two of my rifles, a 6.5 SAUM at 7lb scoped and a 338 Norma at 8lb 3oz scoped.
In fact, I didn't even know they do a padded version!
I've been puzzling this myself. I keep coming back to the Sawtooth for layering, spotting scopes and the possibility of using it as a lightweight overnight pack.
