    Hunter attacked by dogs

Bear spray is an incredible weapon in situations like this. My wife and I were walking on our country road about 1/4 mile from our house with our 2 youngest kids. I'd just gotten a fresh can of bear spray for an upcoming elk hunt into marginal grizzly country, and I decided to carry it instead...

    seekins ph2 7PRC

Seekins are some of the best production rifles you can buy, and better than some customs. They shoot, and they do it accurately. I don't have one in a 7 PRC, but I have one in 6.5 PRC and one in 28 Nosler. You won't be disappointed unless you hate light accurate rifles that you can trust.

    Federal land and State animals

I don't blame non-resident hunters for any of those things. The only thing I blame them for is being a factor in the ever-increasing over crowding issues. I have hunted other states. Many times. Some 8 or 10 times...but you won't ever hear me whimper about that states attitude or laws...

    Federal land and State animals

I agree on the 5x price hike, we are not in disagreement there. In fact, out of 20 of my coworkers who hunt regularly, all but one of them agreed that we'd be willing to pay $1500 annually for our sportsmans package if it meant seeing only resident plates at trailheads every fall.

    Federal land and State animals

Fishing at public boat ramps may not be limited by your license plates, but if your plates are from out of state you will pay considerably more for the opportunity to fish that water. Drive your boat (i.e. "access") that water all you want, but if you want to partake of the resource (the fish)...

    Federal land and State animals

I think most of this never-ending debate comes from real, or perceived, over-crowding. There's not many of us that trust State agencies or federal agencies to manage ANY public resource in the best interests of the people that pay the bills (i.e. taxpayers). In this case, hunters. We've seen...

    Leupold 2800 vs. Vortex 4000

I decided on the Maven, it showed up today. It's very impressive. The focus is great, hits 2000+ yds with any makeshift rest thats handy. Thanks for the heads up!

Seekins PH2 6.5 PRC load development

Is it a PH2 or Element? Either way, it'll shoot great with good handloading without modification. Spend your time and money developing a good load, don't worry about changing the gun. Try ADG brass, H100, and a 156 EOL. Or Lapua brass, H4831sc, and 143 eld-x. Congrats on owning a great rifle...

    What's busy?

I've been hunting a spot that's a vehicle-restricted area in Idaho for quite a few years. Every year there seems to be a few more hunters. Problem is, they are openly ignoring the vehicle restrictions and using atv's to day hunt illegally. You can pack camping gear in and back out, and pack out...

    Question about pressure

^^^ this. Faint ejector marks aren't a pressure sign in Christensen rifles usually. Sticky bolt is.

Am I the only person that can't get Berger 156 to shoot?

My wife's Seekins PH2 shoots the 156's about 5/8 average groups (some a tad bigger, some around 1/2") with H1000, but it likes the 143 eld-x better. Shoots them 3004 and 5 shots touching. My Christensen Mesa is the opposite. 3/4" groups with eld-x (great velocity of 3066), but the 156's are...

    Leupold 2800 vs. Vortex 4000

I'm needing to get a rangefinder that will range animals (deer, elk, etc.) reliably to 1000 yds. I've narrowed it to these two, but am open to any suggestions you have. Trying to keep it around $500, but $700 isn't out of the question. If you have 1000+ yd experience (good or bad) with these or...

    N570 in a 6.5 PRC

Since rifles are way easier to come by than powder, I've changed my method of buying guns. I found 8 lbs of N570, so I bought a 28 Nosler to go with it. When I found 16 lbs of H1000, I bought a 6.5 PRC to go with it. Might seem backwards but spending a few months gathering up bullets, powder...

What are the top factors determining where you live?

I can't stand taxes. The bigger the city, and the bluer the politicians, the more taxes you pay. I'll stay in red states for the rest of my life. I think all of our politicians are corrupt and evil, even at the local level but the Red ones take less of my earned income. That being said, my...

    New Idea For Game Management

For rifle hunts, there's a lot more than 5 units in Idaho that are controlled. 70, 78, 30, 54, 55, 45, 46, etc. I don't feel that mule deer are nearing extinction, I know that they could be managed better. An aggressive predator management system would help.

    New Idea For Game Management

You're right. Lots of details to work out. If you only liked to hunt one species, it would definitely limit your opportunity.
