Loved hearing some of this story in person last fall. Super inspiring to see you getting out with Aubrey and getting it done! We’re a number of years off, but already looking forward to taking Molly out for the youth season. Well done, friend.
Also, we shared some of our experiences adventuring with a baby and then a toddler the last couple of seasons in these threads:

She’s beautiful, congratulations! We’ve had a blast taking our daughter on our adventures the last two and a half years. I expected our life to slow down once she arrived, and while some of our trips look different these days we’ve been pleased to have approximately the same number of days...
Instant Pot has been a game changer (no pun intended!) for game meat in our house. Cooking meat on manual high pressure for 30-70 min depending on the size of the cut yields meat that you can shred with a fork.
The first week in August we flew back to kodiak for our annual deer hunt. Our friends Jake (elkeaterCO) and Sarah joined us from Colorado.
The Beaver loaded down with us and our gear. We took a heavy camp and real food for this one, which was awesome.
Headed out to hunt for the day.
Molly...
Summer got away from me, and I didnt do the job I intended to in keeping this thread updated. We spent quite a bit of time camping over the summer, with some hiking and fishing thrown in. We also spent 4th of July at our friends' remote fly in fishing lodge.
We spent a week camping on the...
Thanks for the kind words, Greg. You've done some amazing Kodiak trips with your son, it's so inspiring seeing other folks getting out with their kids. Let us know when you want to join us for a trip, we'll bring the snacks but you might have to carry them yourself 😂
The "play tent" is the...
I guess I will be the only dissenting voice. We own a sat phone and I'd never want to switch to a texting only device. Takes way too long to obtain information and no immediate feedback to tell you if your message went thru. On a recent Kodiak fly out we spoke to our transporter multiple times...
Our 2 burner Coleman stove is tough to beat when weight allows. In fact I have flown it to Kodiak twice in the last year, and will take it again in August. For backpacking where you only need to boil water the jet boil or other small stove works great. For all car camping, atv or boat based...
I live in AK and hunt here in all seasons. For my needs, I've never really seen the point of a soft shell jacket. If it's wet or windy I usually wear my rain jacket, if it's cold or windy but dry I wear my puffy jacket (sometimes with a wind block vest underneath). If it's really cold and also...
Not as good a bang for your buck calorie/weight wise but some of the choices listed would probably make good wrap style meals tossed into a tortilla or two. MH used to make several varieties of wraps (which I think they have no discontinued) and they were all really good. I sometimes like eating...
We drilled a hole in one and just threaded an appropriately sized bolt thru. When not in use for a camera we often screw a threaded "V" shaped adapter on. Makes low budget shooting sticks or a good way to hang water for gravity filtration.
Glad you chimed in YK, your adventures with your young kids have been really inspiring to us on our own journey tofamily adventures. While Molly is a pretty great sleeper both at home and in the field, I don't mean to give the impression that we haven't had our share of challenges. Like the 6...
I think we are absolutely on the same page, no judgement felt here. Obviously every family will have their own comfort level with this stuff, largely influenced by the experience they bring to the table before kids show up I think. We are by no means experts, still just figuring this out like...
I will try to keep notes this season for the article, it's a good project for next winter ;)
I really hate the weight of the pack n play, and generally prefer our lightweight pea pod tent instead. But for winter camping we wanted her off the ground and safely contained away from the buddy...
Molly's first fly out hunt (aside from the two while I was pregnant) she was 7 months old. I actually think that was easier than the one we did the following year at 19 months bc she wasn't mobile or eating much solid food. She was happy sitting on a raincoat or in a cardboard box. By last year...
