Most people can't handle nature's brutality, but don't account their own actions. This lady is a prime example. Oh look that bird of prey is hurting that duck, I better go beat it to death.
I chose the 7400 over the 5100 because it was a very minimal weight difference for a lot more capacity. I have primarily used it only in bivy mode and when not full the bag compresses nicely. I would rather have the space and not need it, then need the space and not have it.
Here is a great playlist of videos on how to use compasses.

Paper and pen.
When in nature I like to record my observations and experiences. Especially when solo and I am less distracted and can wax poetic  Years ago my wife bought me a write in the rain hunting notebook, case and pen. I always regret when I do not document a trip.

I just wish I knew who I could trust.

I just so happen to have a 20 plus year old Silva and a Suunto M-3DL
The Solo is a great fit for 3-5 days. If you've got extra gear that won't fit, sandwich the heavier stuff between the bag and frame. As your trip progresses and you eat, you'll then have more space in the pack bag from eating your food.
