a 20" WSM is tangibly more pleasant to shoot with the same bullet than a 20" WM. My Tikka T3x started with 20" WM and the recoil was very snappy and extremely loud with ~77gr powder at 150 gr cup & core bullets. Converted to 20" WSM with 175gr LRX bullets and ~67.5 gr powder felt less snappy and...
I'm around 2,960fps out of my 20" Tikka with SDs in the single digits. Using Fed 210 large rifle primers, no need for magnum ones. Case fill seems very near full which is perfect. Easy powder to dispense and weigh.
Lightly used Nikon 3-9x40 1" tube scope with Butler Creek Covers. Spent it's time on my 30-06 for a couple hunts, then on a rimfire. No scratches, clear class. Basic, lightweight no-frills scope with a very clear BDC reticle.
I'll include Ruger 10/22 Pic rail rimfire rings for $5.

Yes, the Banish Backcountry subjectively brings the 300 WSM recoil down from "slightly painful and unpleasant" to just "unpleasant to shoot 10 times in a session." However, the reduced percussion caused by the BB suppressor significantly cuts down my instinct to flinch, and makes shooting...
Faxon pencil barrel went on with some heating of the receiver and persuasion with a 2-lb hammer and block of wood on the end of the muzzle. The barrel probably will never come off!
3lb 11.2 oz naked and 4lb 11.8 oz with 3-9 Nikon scope. Tempting to switch the scope for a lightweight red dot to...
Ronstan 20 series are amazing. Superlight and rated for 900 lbs. Well superior to the Wiser pulleys in terms of friction loss. They are very small and are about 10 grams each. I've used them with 3mm dyneema line to haul a big bull moose's front leg to the side to facilitate opening up the chest...

I read on a 10/22 rimfire forum that the faxon ✏ barrel can be frozen and lubed to facilitate installation. I'm willing to put in a little effort for the low price.
Here's a though for existing 10/22 owners looking to put their guns on a diet for relatively little money. A Faxon arms 16" pencil barrel for my 10/22, on sale from Brownells right now for $133.99 minus 15% with code 15BF. Magpul Moe X-22 stock is $55 before same coupon. Add 7% Active Junky...
I have used this knife on a black bear, several deer, and a moose and it's a great performer and a good value at this price. Super lightweight, good steel, and comfortable in the hand. The downside is the stupid complicated clip design on the sheath.
Did you end up getting one for your Banish Backcountry? I'd like to know if there's sufficient clearance between the brake and the first blast baffle in the can.
Bah, I'm in Alaska and 300 wsm is considered a "small magnum" in big brown bear country, so I'll personally not go with anything smaller that has less than 2900 ft-lbs energy regardless of Rokslide threads to the contraire.
Recoil with a 20" barrel and 2-port brake is less than my factory...
How do you like the FN 502? I'm strongly considering one because of the light weight, reasonable barrel length, threaded barrel, optics plate, and 15 round capacity, plus cost below Ruger and most buckmark options. Plus a decent trigger and reliability, from what I've read. Seems to check all...
We do see 1/2-28 threaded pencil barrel magnums from Weatherby rifles, and their barrels are about as thin as it gets. Not cut into the flutes, but the minimum wall thickness is probably similar.
Manufacturers don't cut into flutes because why would they, given that they can make/order barrels...
I put a couple layered strips of bright orange tape on the bottom of my magazine, makes it easier to find if it pops out, and is a convenient place to store extra tape for the barrel muzzle.
