    Packed weight of Kodiak blacktail

A buddy and I are headed to the south end of Kodiak in a few days. We got to taking about pack weighs today and how much a boned out bt weighed (cape, horns and meat). I had figured 75 lb but would like to know realistic weights from some of you who have been there before. So how far off am I?

    Weighing In

Wow, a few of you have taken the once counting to a new level of analysis! Care to share your spreadsheets? I'm curious how my stuff does as I'm just getting done with the latest gear revamp and will be weighing a bunch of it in the next couple days for a week fly in hunt.

Title says it. My family is considering a move to Pocatello. I'd like to hear all about the town, area, and state....good and bad.

How much salt should we carry?

Anyone else have an opinion whether salt or stop rot would be better?

How much salt should we carry?

Soooo..... If a guy had the weight allowance to take some salt for a cape would he be better off taking salt or stop rot?

I have a few specific questions on a POW Blacktail hunt.

We are headed to Kodiak in just over a month and our plan is to treat it like the meat, keep it as dry and cold as possible and spray it with some citric acid to slow bacteria growth. Those that know better please chime in!

    .300 WSM and Elk

I've seen quite a few die from a 160 accubond from a 7WSM. Very close comparable to your cartridge. They work from 30 to 530 yards. I'll echo what Jason said above. Stay away from a bullet that comes apart easily like a b-tip for elk. They work well on smaller species since the vitals are closer...

Mailing gear from lower 48 to alaska

I just talked with Alaska Airlines (who we're flying with in September form NM). Here's what I was told. Since my flight originates with AKAir their baggage fees apply for the connecting flights on another airline. Since I'm a signature card holder my first bag is free, second is $25, and 3rd...

    Seek outside Cimmaron

Ordered one with light pole and stove jack. They said it should ship in a couple weeks!

    Seek outside Cimmaron

Thanks deadwolf, I'm calling to order a Cimarron right now. It will definitely have a stove jack but I was debating taking the stove to Kodiak. Now I'm planning on taking it to dry out clothes with if nothing else!

    Seek outside Cimmaron

Thanks for the reply Luke. Exactly the advise I was looking for. Yes we are renting a Kodiak Kamp 10x10 with heater for base camp.

    Seek outside Cimmaron

Hey yall, would a cimarron be an acceptable shelter for spiking out on the south end of Kodiak in early September? We are renting a base camp and I'm in need of a new backpacking tent. The Cimarron would be a great choice for nearly all the other hunts I pack in for in the lower 48, but this...

    7mm Elk Bullet

Not sure how much better an SST will hold together than the Berger. An Interbond will stay together better than an SST from what I've read. On the other hand I have plenty of proof that a 160 Accubond will anchor bulls from 15 yards to 537 yards out of a 7WSM. That is my go to bullet and rifle...

    Aoudad....

I cant say anything about TX because I have no experience there. On the other hand I have hunted Barbary many years in NM. The draw odds for the prime units are about 13% from what I can figure for a Non-Res first choice. There are sheep scattered in the draw units and a decent harvest rate is...
