Alexgio518,
Have a Kimber Montana 8400 chambered in .325 WSM that meets this definition. Rifle has a Quiet Brake installed (greatly reduces recoil but not quite) weighs 6# 2 oz. in bare form. Now scope-less, it once had a 1" Kahles scope 3X9X42 that weighed approx. 12.4 OZ. in Tally mounts...
Cool Thread
My battery listed in the order I acquired each rifle.
1.) M 700 Reminton Mt. Rifle in .280 Rem
2.) M70 Winchester FTW (1955) in .358 Win
3.) Kimber 8400 Montana in .325 WSM
4.) M70 Winchester sporter (1949) re-chambered in 338-06
5.) M99 Savage 99 (1954) in .300...
Either a .280 Remington or the .280 AI would be a good option IMO. Equipped with an optic that has a similar 9not too busy) BDC reticle as pictured you would be golden.

I would like a shot at the Marlin if your present deal falls through. I regret selling a smiler Rifle in 35 Remington and have been looking for one to restore my battery. LaGriz
I have a pair of Woollmate pants They are the Cabela's Wind Shear (Outfitter camo) size 38 Regular. Still have the tags on them as they are as new and have only been tried on inside. Also have a pair of washable Wool cargo pants (also size 38 Reg) in a charcoal dark gray color. Also have never...
Well Done SwampGoast,
Your accuracy with the long bow is most impressive. I guess the multiple awards you won at or LTB shoots have helped you hone your skills to another level. Good luck to you during the rest of the season.
I'm still looking for my 1st trad kill. I could wallpaper a...
Too Missahba and others,
Thanks for the input. I have since spoken to the head guy at Montana Canvas. He suggested using pure silicone. Not yet sure how I'm going to do this. Have mixed seam sealant with mineral spirits for use on Sil-Nylon tents and tarps. Unsure if that will work as well on...
Rifle Biased,
I'm impressed with the quality of the Winchester Featherweight purchased as a gift for my grandson in 2020. I paid a discount price from the box store that was discontinuing the model from there line up. Built in Portugal by FN, with quality fit and finish that surprised me. I...
Update,
I learned from a Cabela's product specialist that Montana Canvas used to build these tents. I called MC and left a voice mail for the main guy. Looking for the correct seam sealant and hopefully suggestions on how to go about the process. Additionally, looking to have a pyramid...
I reached out to Cabela's Customer Service. They gave me the number of Westfield Outdoors in Indiana. The Rep tells me they have only been making the Alakanak tents at that location since 2020. I got the impression that she was totally uninformed but unwilling to admit her ignorance. Was told...
My trusty 12'X12' Alakanak Tent purchased in 2009 leaked badly on a my recent elk hunt. When I installed the center pole, white seam material sprinkled down like confetti! I knew I was in trouble even though It had never leaked before. I'm thinking my tent may have gotten damp or wet on a return...
Just a memory of a scene from a famous movie,
The "Hunt for Red October" the captain of the Soviet sub has a private conversation with his XO. They are discussing defection to the US and the XO says, "I would like to live in Montana. I can do that, yes?" The Captain agrees. "Well then I...
The recent infrastructure bill has 2700 pages that few have read nor understand. Caught only a smidgen of a report saying the new bill allows states or arthurites to bill the average citizen for any mileage (carbon credits?) accumulated while driving across state lines. Can some one bring me up...
Another JES Fan,
They re-bored my pre-64 Mode 70 classic in 30-06 to 338-06. Turn around was brief + quality work. I'm getting 1" groups at 100yards using Nosler Custom ammo. The 200 gr. Accubonds are loaded to a claimed speed of 2800 fps. Recoil is not much different than a 180 grain 30-06...
I guess I got a super deal on the one I purchased a year ago for my Grandson. Field & Stream was having a clearance sale, and were no longer going to stock the Winchester FW. I only paid $599,00 plus tax. The Boy's gift didn't come with any rings or bases. We find the quality of this Portugal...
With the Rifle,
Have taken two bulls at angles like this.
One September in Idaho.... with a hard quartering angle at 50 yards. Placed the crosshair on the point of the bull's shoulder. Was trying to break a bone and did so. The load was a Win Supreme 160 grain Fail Safe load from my...
+1 on a Model 70,
Check out my thread "I'm buying my grandson a rifle for graduation" His .308 is a standard featherweight and was made in Portugal by FN. We are impressed with the quality. Rifle shoots well with multiple loads and bullet weights. Best groups have been with Federal Premium...
Budget may be an issue,
Being cold will motivate you to think hard about going cheep. I suffered a few nights in Norther NM in my 12X12 Alakank tent with a wood stove. Set the tent up in a poor location and was stubborn to relocate my camp. Wind direction changed on day 2, coming in the...
