Buying a dedicated deer and elk rifle for Colorado

If recoil is a real concern you should consider getting a brake put on. My Savage Bear Hunter in a 300 win mag came with one and shooting 180 gr bullets there is very little recoil at all. My 14 year old son and I ran 80 rounds through it in one sitting, shooting prone. We stopped because we...

    New from MN

Cool areas up your way. I have two sisters living in Duluth and I used to hunt the Moose Lake area. Like you it gets old looking at trees and squirrels and no deer. The icing on the cake is when we were bear hunting up there and seen a big cat. Its not bad enough there is too many wolves but...

Ar 15 info for first time buyer.

There are many really good ones out there. I have owned two. I had a Colt for a while in college. Sold it and back when Sandy Hook hit I bought an Oracle DPMS with a 16 inch Bull. I really like the DPMS, not saying there isnt better out there because there is but this is a very accurate...

    New from MN

Hi from Blaine John. Northern MN is a fantastic place to be and if it wasnt for the dang wolves it was a great place to big game hunt too. I would love to see the moose and deer populations come back! What city are you in or closes to?

    Post season now maintenance???

I just keep shooting as much as I can. Outdoors during the winter can be fun and realistic as in most seasons I encounter several hunts where the temp can be as low as -20. Just keeps my muscles working right if nothing else. As far as a stabilizer goes, I love my B-Stinger!

    Gun purchase

In many states you will need a different permit to purchase a handgun than just a regular firearm. I would make sure you update your documents before purchasing. You may have to wait a small time period for a permit to purchase a handgun anyway (depending on your state) . You might as well...

    Accubonds vs E-tips

I was thinking of giving those ELD-x's a try. Accubonds and Berger 215's as well. Seeing what I can get away with in my internal mag vs single loading which is actually still very quick in my Savage Bear Hunter in a 300 win mag. Some great options out there but I dont think I will should...

    Asat clothing

the first stuff from ASAT I bought was for my kids as they had some garments on their site there where crazy cheap. I started to notice how much better my son blended in everywhere. I love the pattern and even rattle canned my old Big Red 3 Wheeler in a similar pattern. I am pretty set on camo...

Which scope for 300m? Swarovski Z3 or Nightforce SHV

I looked at the SHV and liked them but ended up getting a used NXS 3x15 .25 moa with the NP-R1 reticle and like it a lot. Its sitting on a 300 win mag right now. I paid just over $1200 for the scope in excellent condition. There are a lot of good options out there at that price point.

    Tikka 7mm or 300win mag

I like my 300 win mag a lot. I would put a good brake on that though. I have the Savage Bear Hunter in 300 wm and my 14 yr old can shoot it all day long. The two of us went through almost 80 rounds in one afternoon just having fun with it. We were pushing 180gr power points that I bought...

    coffee

Another vote for the Folgers in Tea Bags. I am just not a fan of starbucks in general. I have been having Folgers coffee in tea bags since college and they do the job and are affordable.

    AR advice

I have had a Colt and had to sell it back when I got laid off. I wish I hadnt. I now have a DPMS with a 16 inch Bull Barrel. It shoots fantastic without any issues. It sub moa with the factory rounds I have tried and with the Hornady's its a ragged hole and this is with the factory trigger...

New bear hunter and bait help

For fall bear in MN we would dig a hole and cover the bait with 6 foot logs. Its easier to tell size with 6 foot logs. We covered the bait in logs to keep other critters from digging it up. You got the skinny on grease but we put the grease in a pit in front of the bait pile. That way bears...

    New scope

I almost bought the same gun you have but opted for the Bear Hunter instead. I can tell you that even with my 30 oz NightForce NXS 3.5 x 15 the gun still jumps up enough where you cant see your hits but that brake really knocks down the recoil and the gun can shoot! I bought my scope used that...

    Help deciding on rifle

I never had the xbolt but I did have the Abolt and a Win m70 and I liked them both. The 300 wm I just bought I am extremely happy with. Its the Savage Bear Hunter. With the brake on there really is not much recoil at all. In fact my 14 year old shoots it all the time. We ripped through 60...

    Long range bug

For what you are looking for a .260, 6.5 or a 7mm would fine. I would probably opt for the 6.5 for my next rifle. I bought a Savage Bear Hunter in 300 win mag (7.5 pounds) and put a NightForce NSX (30 oz)on it. Recoil is not an issue but I cant spot my own hits. For a true LR I would get the...

    Favorite "Celebratory whisky"

I typically have a celebration cigar. Nothing like walking out with a stogie going. As far as a drink, I do enjoy Makers Mark!

    Lost Bone Saw

I have used the Wyoming Saw and Idaho saw. I like the Wyoming saw better but the Idaho packs better.
