There's a few reasons. They pulled their sponsorship a couple years back for seemingly questionable reasons. People still have issues about the inventory problems that they sometimes have, which are much better now but used to be a lot worse. And I'm sure some just don't like the way they run...
I own the Comets. I like them, good for warm weather and hiking without heavy loads. If I were to buy them again I would go with the Quest for the extra height for and a little more support. But they're both nice.

You could look at the Kryptek Poseidon set. I don't know what it's going for now, but I picked it up last year for about $140 and that's the jacket and pants. It's lightweight and packs down small.

There are a lot of different types of softshells. Some are thicker some are thin. They are nice because they do provide warmth, they are much more durable than insulation, base layers, or rain gear, most are quiet, and some are more breathable to be able to wear while hiking and some are more...
My buddy took his as a carry on with no issues. It might depend on the airline though or even who's working at the desk.

No. It's not really the best option because you wouldn't want to wear insulated rain gear in all conditions or want to pack bulkier pieces around. Some of the insulation pieces have a dwr coating on them so they will shed very light precipitation, but they are in no way rain gear. The Sitka...
Definitely this. I always wash all clothes before wearing. Also, washing will help some with the itch and softness, but some merino has more itch than others. Some people's skin is more sensitive to it. Another thing to is that solid color merino is way softer than camo printed. The printing...
I love the Peloton. Comfortable and it dries really fast. If I was backpacking I might go merino if I was hunting out of the same shirt for a week straight because of how well merino does with not stinking. I use both regularly but prefer the Peloton for day hunts.

As stated, Kuiu, Sitka, First Lite, Kryptek all make good stuff. If you can get to a place to check some of it out, try it on, etc., then do it. If not, just choose based on what you like the look of and based on reviews for sizing, fit, etc. Overall, I like Kuiu's stuff best. I like the fit...
They're nice. Maybe not quite to the same quality as Kuiu, but not bad. Someone just sold their brand new Kuiu down vest on the classifieds here for $100.

Another vote for the Kuiu Alpines. Great pants with a lot of features. I own the Chinooks too and I love those pants but I wear them later in the year. Attacks are nice but I like the knee pads, all zippered pockets, and material of the Alpines. I feel they're more versatile too because they're...
I'm sure either Kuiu or Sitka would be great. The Kuiu gaiters are awesome. The best I've used. Much better than the Kenetreks. I have seen the Sitka but have not used them.

They have a new one, Brambler. They're $100. They're brand new, so don't know how many people have used them yet.

I have these ones I picked up for around $75 on sale. They're a discontinued model.

I like the z pole style because they collapse shorter and are a little lighter. Plus you don't have to...
Last year was my first year using trekking poles and I really liked it. I would recommend giving it a try. If you look around you should be able to find some deals on them.

They have their original Yukon gaiters which are waterproof, breathable, knee high. They are pretty quiet. Way more quiet than OR. The new scree gaiters are the short ones, only water resistant. Made for keeping debris out. I don't think they are even shipping those yet. The Yukons are the best...
There are quite a few threads about this. If you want some on the cheap, you can pick up the Core4element gaiters from Camofire for around $25. I prefer those over the OR. Mainly the noise. Or watch the forum classifieds and try to pick up some Kuiu gaiters for around $50. They are awesome...
