Salomon Quest 4D or Comet 3D?

I really like the way that the Quest fit my foot, but I feel like they rub around the top of my ankles as I walk so I am afraid they will cause blisters. The comets fit pretty good on my feet but I really like the height of them compared to the Quest. Any advice? Does Salomon make a hybrid of the two?

Thanks,
Boswell

I own the Comets. I like them, good for warm weather and hiking without heavy loads. If I were to buy them again I would go with the Quest for the extra height for and a little more support. But they're both nice.

I have liked my quest 4d. They have a few major drawn backs though. Heavy packs and steep hills, they are a balance and I've found them good for scouting. The other major issue though is when they get wet they stink like crazy.

My brother and I both just bought Quest 4d 2 GTX boots. We were really hoping they would work due to the light weight but durable construction, but they are tight on the outer part of the sole around the instep. Tried them with and without the inserts and they were the same either way.

We do have wider feet but I usually don't have a problem with medium width boots.

I wear the Comets as my everyday work boots. Very comfortable, and would be good for light hiking, but if going on more serious terrain or more than light loads, I'd go with more boot like the Quest or others.

The Quest is WAY stiffer than the Comet, so supporting more weight is achievable. I went for the Comet because I didn't see myself ever hauling more than 100lbs on my back. So far the Comets have been the best I've ever owned and up to 80lbs no complaints. 3 seasons in and I get a tiny bit of water seeping through the base of the tongue.

I had this same issue. I loved the boots, but the width was just slightly too tight. Man, I REALLY liked those boots.

I'm going to take mine back to REI today and try some others to compare.

There are some other great Salomons besides those two. I recently bought the Salomon Evasion Mid GTX. Very light with Goretex. Haven't put them through the rounds yet but I like them alot so far!

What size are you? I have some lightly used Comets in size 12 I was going to sell... Slightly too small for me (@ the toebox. Didn't notice till I was doing some vertical stuff for days in a row and one of my outer toes started to swell up hard) :(
