This +100. I only take a Leatherman Charge Titanium and my Benchmade Bushcrafter. Between those two knifes there really isn't anything I can't do in the backcountry. I also think that the blade on the leathermans is quite good, you could breakdown an elk with one. No I haven't done it, but...
I am back in town. You are Mule deer hunting correct? I have spent a bit of time out in 50 and know that area reasonably well. What time of year are you looking to go? Are you wanting to car camp or due the backpack in and high camp hunt?
Brian
Not sure where you will be coming in from but all the areas I know of in that area will require quite a bit of vertical hiking.
I am out of town until the 5th but PM next week and I can give you quite a bit of info on that unit. I currently have quite a few game cameras running and have seen...
This is is what I have done previously as well. I took a nice big wool blanket and wrapped my air pad in it like a taco. I love pillows so I would bring a bunch, I sleep incredibly well when I do this.
It looks like the winter wasn't quite as bad as we all feared it would be. The elk seemed to come out of it fine. The young mulie fawns on the other hand took a beating so probably be a few down years for mule deer hunting in 3-4 years.
Winter kill was less than expected for mule deer, and...
If you are going the cot route why not look at hammocks as well?? Both get you off the ground and you have to content with cold air circulating underneath you.
That is a really nice bear. The coat is really nice, no spots, the color is gorgeous as well. Looks to be stout as well, thick through the shoulders and rear. If that doesn't make you want to get a bear tag nothing will....
As stated that average was brought down due to infant mortality. If nearly half the people are dying when they are children due to illness or malnutrition then the average would be much lower. Vaccinations have done all the heavy lifting of moving the average life expectancy. Yet given that...
I am not sure I agree with this aspect. Even with all of our modern medicine, nutrition, and amenities we have not really moved the overall longevity of our species. People of today live as long on average as people throughout history. What makes it look like we are living longer is we have...
They also began their training with bow and horse when they were 3 years old. The younger women in the tribe were given this task. One thing that is not often brought up is that the women in these plains tribes were also very capable archers and horsemen. In fact it was also their duty to...
Be warned you will leave a deep tissue massages feeling MUCH worse than when you went in. I used to do them frequently when I was really into Crossfit. They do help a great deal though, but it is a painful medicine to take...
Found some more info. Apparently there are several records of many of them being accurate out to 500 meters with their bow on man sized targets. I am not sure I could shoot an IPSEC target with a rifle at 500 yards off of a horse....okay lets be honest I am 100% positive I couldn't do it! I...
So not a "true" hunting knife by probably many peoples standards. Yet my tried and true, beaten to heck and back, goes with me everywhere outdoor knife is the Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter. It will break down an elk, deer, squirrel, grouse, fish, rope, small tree, and logs with equal ease. It was...
I met a few people out at the gas station where I hunt last year and they were pretty heart broken in that there was no ice to be had, anywhere, for like 50 miles in any direction. So might get some before going in depending on how many stores are in your area and how many hunters and other...
I am on a 3 week cycle myself. I think I have a few too close to bedding areas and will be moving them down the moutain a bit to focus on preferred routes into and out of the area.
