Well to all my fellow archery elk hunting enthusiast the climax to Sept 1 is building! Hard to believe it’s only 2 months away... I’m super stoked this year because I get to hunt NM 16A sept 1-14th and then go back to Colorado for the last week of archery to hunt with my 15year old daughter and...

All good feedback on here, I personally didn’t have good luck with the mora it got full very quickly and the blade is to small for my taste, I carry a good buck knife with the gut hook similar to the one shown in the pick on another post and I carry a small sharpener..
I scout every July, more or less to just know the area better and better.. it’s amazing how many new deadfalls and areas can change from erosion but I like to scout new spots in the same general area I hunt, other hunters move in and I move away from them..
I hunt above Chama it’s very busy from opening and everyday after.. there are new people who come every year and park next to the other 25 trucks and trailers, I’ve gotton used to all the traffic and I stay for 2-3 weeks so it gives me a higher chance at tagging out.
Good luck
I hunt above Chama, it gets hit hard from opening day on.. it has elk and I’ve been hunting there along time so I don’t feel like moving to a new spot.. I guess I’ve gotton used to the people but the above post was so true people follow you to your spot... I have encountered a lot of good...

Thanks Mike, yep I’ve got horses... I’m assuming from your comment you have hunted there? I archery hunt in southern Colorado but don’t usually hunt over water holes but sounds like I might have too in the Gila.. Hoping I hear some bugles but not expecting it since it’s so early
Placing trail cams has definitely made a huge difference, I’ve been putting them out for the last 5 years... I live in Oklahoma and hunt in Colorado.. I make a trip up in July and put 3-4 cams out and check them when I go back for archery... I try to get there 1-2 days before season to take them...
