The Solomon Quest 4d GTX have become my all-around go-to but if you want something even lighter definitely check out the Inov8 Roclite 320 GTX running boots. They're pretty sweet, fast and light.

Tnelson82 - Here's the stoveless menu I'll be using tomorrow on a quick 4-day backcountry hunt in AZ. For myself it's lighter than usual on daily calories at 2177 but since this isn't going to be the most physically challenging hunt and shorter in length I'm expecting it to work well. Daily food...
Your sleep system including shelter seems REALLY heavy to me. My entire sleep system including shelter is 45.23 oz, less than your sleep bag alone. Lots of weight to be cut there.
Certainly look into a quilt vs the bag and a dyneema tent for future upgrades.
You could save 15-20 oz on a better...
No experience with the AAE vanes but have had good luck with the q2i fusion x-ii 2.1" in four fletch. Just ordered the same vane in 1.75" (0.4" height). Will four fletch these as well and see how they shoot.
I'm in the same boat as bsnededker. I've shot the Pro-v for a long time without a single issue but I want the micro-adjust capabilities so will be upgrading to the hamskea come off-season. :D
Gohunt would be a good option to help narrow down your unit search. You can filter by points, season and trophy potential, etc. Not sure if there is a free 30-day trial going on right now but I would recommend taking advantage if so. Best of luck!
I can certainly relate to some extent. I grew up in the midwest, cut my teeth on whitetail and turkey hunting. I've got the bug for western adventures (those are the hunts I certainly look forward to most) but I always put aside time once a year to get back to the WI property to chase whitetails...
Wowza! That's insanely light. You guys must not be at much more than 1500 calories per day. Last hunt I packed just shy of 21 oz per day, average 131 cal/oz for 2750 cal/day. I'll likely be trimming this back as I rarely eat all my portioned food for any given day.
What Luke said. I predominantly solo hunt. If my tent is staked and one of my trekking poles being used that usually means I'm not carrying camp on back so my pack is light. I usually bring my other trekking pole with on these day hunts and if I am fortunate enough to harvest an animal I only...
I too just came out of the Unlimiteds and can second everything COSA has to say. It was my first trip in there and to to be honest, the hunt sucked. It was 100% Type 2 fun (definition: an activity that's only fun after you've stopped doing it). The hiking is brutal, super windy, cold, and...
I'm a huge fan of the First Lite mountain athlete crew sock. Great cushioning for long days, fast drying and odorless. The only sock I use now.

There's absolutely no need to purchase a set of 10x if you already have a pair of 8x, especially for an archery elk hunt. I personally think the 8x are preferable for the hunt you plan on doing. Pros: wide FOV, easy to hand hold, lightweight and unbeatable in thick cover. Also great when you're...
Great pic is right! It's really cool to see them like that. I don't know how much of their day they actually spend sleeping but I bet it isn't much. A couple weeks ago I saw this little two point laying flat on his side, legs all sprawled out, head down. I honestly thought he was dead. I had to...
No, I wouldn't say dyneema is hard to to work with. The taped seams are WAY stronger than I imagined. I used 1/2" double sided adhesive tape and messing around with some scrape pieces I couldn't get them to tear apart no matter how hard I pulled. I will say there are differences between...
