Well it looks like we got drawn first season for elk this September, and are pretty pumped. From all the research, it looks like it's a pretty good unit to get into some decent Bulls. None of us are focusing on 300"plus bulls, just a shot at something decent and mature.
From all the internet...
I just made a quick decision on a landowner voucher in Colorado Close to Bayfield. Anyone have any advice or tips on how to hunt the area for Deer? I really wanted to bowhunt, but will also have my rifle for backup. Going in blind on this one, but it seemed to be a good tag on the limited...
Shane is absolutely right. Free range aoudad in places like the Palo Duro Canyon in the panhandle, and Davis mountains out west are excellent opportunities to get after sheep. They don't count towards the slam, but they are just as tough to hunt. The access/trophy fee is about as much as a NR...
Question, if I have my points show up for goat for 2014 and nothing at all show for sheep, does that mean anything? It shows my points for sheep and everything else for 2013, but nothing at all for sheep on 2014. I don't want to get my hopes up, was thinking my app may have gotten rejected...
I really appreciate the feedback. I guess the next question is, what is a good lightweight option for a suit? I was thinking a painters suit, but that might have that loud swishing sound like a cheap rain suit. Not looking at having this as the main option, but it never hurts to have a backup...
Just wanted to see if anyone has tried to use a white suit for sheep like I've seen a few goat hunters use? Got a sheep hunt in August and want to see if anyone has ever given it a shot.
Thanks a bunch.
Took a little while to post this, hope everyone's had a good season. Stuck him at 12,600' at 55 yards on public land. He was mature, and heavy bodied. He taped out at 158", not bad for a 3x3. I'll attach more pics in my next post.
I used one of the silver lined ones in the Brooks range on a sheep hunt for a night. Strapped it across the top of an open crevase and put a slight pitch in it. Kept me dry. Used another one as a heat reflector from a fire in Colorado as well when we were too far to go back to base camp and...
