I've been doing it this way for quite a few years. The Oxyclean is the key. My wife's a nurse and this has been her method for cleaning her uniforms from all kinds of nasties.
Don't over tighten the bolts. Very easy to warp when it heats up. It may not have been necessary but I wiped mine down with alcohol after assembling and before burning in. That way I don't have any smudges or fingerprints permanently etched into the titanium.
I would caution against using anything with a really high tensile strength like aluminum. You have to remember that our shelters are made of nylon and stitching and in serious exposure something's gotta give. Even 3mm glow wire has a 550lb breaking strength. I'd rather replace a couple dollar...
Go for it and enjoy. If I’d given up the first time I went camping I would have missed out on a lot of adventures. You absolutely don’t need the latest and greatest to find out if you like something.

a bandana and an eye dropper with Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap. you can even bring along a gallon ziplock and wash your undies with it. They also claim you can brush your teeth with it but I haven't tried.
Friends and family is a PayPal term used to get out of paying the 3.5% fee. Some use it but I personally never will. It's cheap insurance that you actually get your product and covers you as a seller.
