I saw those and was wondering the same thing. I need a lighter boot for warmer temps, and the Neutron for $140 are a deal. Hopefully someone on here has some experience with them. I do have Asolo 520 (full leather) and they have treated me well, 6yrs of hard use and they are close to replacement...
I don't recall what flavor MH it was, but chose one that went with the grouse. Likely a turkey tettrazinni, one of the chicken ones, or the stroganoff. I don't often take the stew, but that would work well.
the breast meat from a dusky is about as good as game bird meat gets. If I get one and...
Last time I shot one in the backcountry, there was a fire ban. So I boiled the meat in water, removed the meat and then used the water to make my mtn house. Then added the meat back into the pouch. Actually, I ate most of the breast meat while the MH was re-hydrating.
My EE 0* (last year's model) is <2lbs, so that would be my choice vs. adding an overbag to your FF (this is how I ended up with the EE in the first place!). I'm a cold sleeper and like to go conservative on bag ratings after too many freezing nights in 20-25* bags. 2nd season could have really...
When moving in on the goat, you do really need two people - one to hold the decoy while you draw and shoot. It does come with stakes, but its tough to move through the sage with them attached. If its windy, its SUPER hard to carry that thing out solo... keep that in mind.
I used one a bit last year, on BLM grounds that had some cattle grazing allotments around. It worked pretty well especially early in the season before they felt the pressure (where I was hunting anyway). Closest I was able to approach was about 85 yards. I tried to not approach directly at them...
I've heard big groups of elk talking in the dark and at first light during 3 and 4th seasons (including lots of bugling). However, I only used their noise to guide me and have never tried to call anything in. I do keep a cow call handy if I'm going in for a stalk, you can use it to try and stop...
Check out North Park Anglers in Walden, they are all good guys that know the fishing. There are some huge fish up there and they guide both public and private (the leases are sick). I used to live up there, so PM me if you want more info on the fishing or area in general..
Welcome! I grew up in the Madison area and we always hunted west of Spring Green. I still go back nearly every year for rifle or archery season and to see family. Treestand hunting got a lot more difficult after living out west for a couple of years.... and the hike up the ridge now seems like...
Hmm... I'll see if I can find that one. Not sure if I still have the print copy. Takeaway: MH was tops. Wise foods actually did ok, and BP not so good on meals. I don't think they rated the sweets though. I think in total there were 4 or 5 brands tested.
Tested them out vs. MH, no comparison. Backpacker Pantry are way more variable in calories, serving size, sodium, etc. than MH from flavor to flavor. They also take longer to rehydrate (according to package). Some of the BP flavors are good, I recall pad thai being tasty but the package was huge...
managed recoil loads for practice, a bit hotter loads for elk. I think that would be fine with the -06. That is how I set my wife up with a .308 (she is a bit recoil sensitive). I sight in the rifle with high power stuff for elk, and let her shoot all day with the light stuff to build...
