What is the deal with latex gloves?

Clean hands, clean meat and protection from infection. Same reasons I have a nice backpack, nice boots and good gear. Why inconvenience myself when I can use the gloves?

    Colorado Elk Rifle

30-06. As said above, $500 all in would be tough. I would suggest a Weatherby Vanguard and a Leupold Freedom 3x9 scope

How do you guys manage your time?

This is perfect. Marriage is a partnership.

How do you guys manage your time?

Make scouting a team effort. My wife will come hiking with me in the summer and the fall. She will read a book while I look through the binos. Take care of your shit while you are at home. Don't leave to go scouting/hunting if you have a list of things to do and take care of. Step up and...

What sleep system for Arapaho/Roosevelt NF in June?

Like it was said above, snow can be a limiting factor in early June. With that said, I run a 15 or 20 degree bag through the summer and fall. Too warm? unzip it.

Help me find a buck! CO 3rd Rifle

Awesome! I hunted a different unit but had a similar experience during 3rd season. We were into does constantly but the bucks were hard to locate.

Any pics or more info on the titanium pulley?

    Ruger No 1

I love the classy looks of a nice No 1 and would hesitate chopping one up. With that said, I did get a killer deal on a No1 in 30-06 that someone put a muzzle break on.... kind of ugly but its a shooter and is now my beater hunting gun.

    Budget puffy pants

I picked up a pair at an REI Garage sale for $20. Covered up a tear with some duck tape and I am good to go.

    Rut dates

I hunt in the same general area during 3rd season and 4th season every other year if my preference points allow. I would typically call 2nd and 3rd pre-rut and 4th rut. Depends on the year though. It was pretty warm last year and 4th was much more like the pre-rut. I will typically see...

First Solo Trip - CO 1st Rifle 2018

Too bad. I was sick as a dog during Antelope season last week but I was with other people and never more than 15 minutes from a truck and if need be, they could have driven through the field to me.

    CO 2018 speedgoat buck

Great buck! I am like you, I usually get a doe tag but I saw some great bucks this year. I think I may try for a buck tag next year.

Where do you keep your tag when packing out meat?

On a rear quarter and its the first thing that goes back to the camp/truck. I keep the other side of tag with me.

suggestions on grilling very lean steaks

Olive oil or avocado oil and your choice of seasoning. I agree with the post above. Super hot grill and sear both sides of the steak (1 minute each side) then you can drop the heat and flip a few times.

    CO Unit 88 - 10/6 - 10/12

No advice on those units but good luck! I have a doe tag for a different unit this weekend and can't wait to get out there. I picked up a second late season tag for December as well

    Colorado 120,121,125,126

Late season can be tough because the antelope are bunched up into bigger groups. This means they are either there or not. Instead of small bands all over the place, you have to find the bigger groups. That's usually why land owners are willing to grant permission, they don't want those big...

    Extra Antelope Doe Meat

I'd be surprised if you can't get both doe antelope home with you. 60-70lbs all boned out sounds right for both.

Once again, I have failed my family!!!

This upcoming season will be my 6th year hunting. I was able to get dialed into deer and antelope pretty quickly, 3/5 for antelope and 4/5 for deer. Still working on elk though. I am 1 for 5 on elk and took at cow a few years ago. Keep at it! Every time I have been out I learn a little...

    Lets talk layers and hoods

I try to limit hoods to as few items as possible. My typical system is a lightweight non-hooded merino long sleeve or a short sleeve, a Chama hoody, an R1 fleece with no hood and then a hooded puffy. The chama hoody easily pulls out of the R1 if I need it, or I can stuff it in. Its not a...
