Looking to get my kids out hunting for the first time and thinking of getting a leftover doe tag for late season rifle 12/1. I know there is little public land in these areas and wondering how crowded the SWA and BLM lands are in the late season. I will be going scouting soon with the boys. Also, I’m curious about the private property walk-in access for big game hunting. I found a few sections but I don’t know if it is for bird hunting only or big game as well. I’ve read it is fairly easy to get land owner permission for late season antelope, is that accurate? What should I stay away from?

Late season can be tough because the antelope are bunched up into bigger groups. This means they are either there or not. Instead of small bands all over the place, you have to find the bigger groups. That's usually why land owners are willing to grant permission, they don't want those big groups all over their spread.

For the walk-in access stuff, you can use the CPW Hunt Atlas online map. There are options that let you look at walk-in access areas that allow big game.

I have the same tag for the October season and one for the late season. Good luck out there!
