Hornady makes a set of comparator gauges for measuring headspace as well. uses the same clamp on device as the CBTO comparator set.

get a set of comparator gauges and throw the instructions in the garbage.
set the die up higher than the press in the up position. slowly turn it in while resizing a piece of brass until you bump the shoulder back 0.001-0.002" and then try and chamber the brass. if it goes in, youre good and...
Can you expand?
I havent found much about them, but I have used the GMX on a big WT and a cow elk. Both died very quickly. Recovered the WT one in the offside hide, not much left. But the deer was literally 5yds from the muzzle and i blew through both shoulders.
I don’t have a budget haha.
I just buy good gear once or twice a year. After a few years now I have accumulated pretty much everything I need. Maybe need about $1000 worth of stuff next year and I’m pretty well done until something breaks.
Im the same thing.
I dont like the German reticles, Nightforces are too heavy for my rig, reticles are bleh.
Vortex has a nice and simple BDC with the HSR-5i reticle.
The ogive on the bullet is a lot better spot to measure cause bullet length can vary, especially with a polymer tip.
I have had bullets measure up to 0.003" different where the ogive is more consistent.
I can take your word for it, I am 100% positive that you have way more experience than me, but for the hunting that i have done (4 years backcountry, 10 years open prairie and thick timber) I just havent been in any of the situations where I feel that the XLR wouldnt be completely fine for...
Ill bite a bit.
1) I dont think anyone is arguing that a 20-40lb rifle is practical for hunting.
2) Depending on the chassis, I dont think the design need to be changed much at all.
3) I dont know why you would add weight to a chassis for hunting, where one shot is all that matters for the...
I shoot almost exclusively off a tripod on my hunts.
For WT i sit in a camping chair with a tripod and wait for them to cross a cut line. I have killed 6 bucks on the same cut line within 300yds of each other.
For MD and Elk we have a bunch of open prairie where shots are easily 400-600yds...
