Both have their place. I use both frequently. I like making mature cow sounds with external reeds, and younger cow calf sound with a mouth reed. And I exclusively use mouth reeds for bugles. I feel I can make a better sound with a mouth reed and a bugle tube, than the bugles with reeds already...
My personal favorites are the 175 eldx, and the 180 berger. But if you don't have the twist, you may never get them to shoot great. Out of my factory savage barrel, the 169 berger w/ 69 gr of H1000 was money.
Cold meadows would not be my choice for November. My brother and I went in there in October, and we never saw a deer. I would imagine you want to be lower for the November hunt. We had a foot of snow. Lots of wolves there too. We had an opportunity at two wolves, but we’re too slow.
Don’t forget the para cord. Elk are big critters. Cutting one up with a friend is always nice, but when you’re be yourself, para cord really lends a helping hand.
Tooth of the arrow. Easiest fixed blade I’ve ever tuned for. They fly with my field tips to 80 yards, no joke. Seems like a well built head for sure. I’ll be using them this year on my elk hunt.
I might be wrong with my thought process, but in my mind it makes sense. I practice out to 100 yards every single day. However I limit my hunting shots to 60 and closer. In open areas, where I might have to make a 60 yard shot, I want absolute accuracy. It doesn't matter what broadhead you...
Great points. One thing I feel is sometimes skipped over, is knowing when to take the shot. Knowing the anatomy of elk is very important, when making your decision to release an arrow. Is his shoulder back or forward? Can I get both lungs from this angle? There's obviously a ton of scenarios...
7e might have a lower elk population than than other Az elk units, but it still has elk. I’ve been a part of several hunts there. My buddy has killed a 335 bull and a 300 bull out of 7e. I hit a 320ish bull, but shot was too high. It’s no unit 9, but it’s still a fun elk hunt. You just gotta...
Should be a good hunt. I have the same hunt this year. I live about an hour from the unit. Good antler growth this year, and they cut almost half the tags this year. Just praying for some rain. It's getting dry out there. I'll post a trail cam pic to keep you excited. Haha.
Tikka action, proof 26” 1:8 twist, McMillan ultra lite game warden stock bedded, tikka trigger with spring, nf rings, nf nxs 5.5-22 scope. Shoots amazing. Around 8lbs with sling, ammo, bipod, and everything.
I love my proof research barrel with the McMillan Ultra Lite Game Warden stock. Great balance and feel. I would like to change my muzzle break though. Too big, and not needed for a 7 saum.
My vote would be for the 7 saum. Great case design, great bc bullets available, more efficient powder burn than most 7mm cartridges, low recoil, and very very accurate. Just have the barrel throated so you can load those big pills way out there, to make room for more powder. I'm pushing the 175...
I killed my first branch antlered bull in 22n. I killed on the first day. There are a lot of elk in the unit, but big bulls are hard to find. I've been back in there helping people, and we've killed sub 300" bulls. But there are bigger bulls in the unit. Practice, and become proficient in 500...

I have a year and a half old Swarovski ATS HD 65 spotting scope with the 25-50 Wide Angle Eye Piece. I bought this brand new from B&H Photo, for $2400. It has been on one hunt. It was in a hard case the entire time, and is like new with no marks...
