Canada's Trudeau set to resign any day as Finance Minister resigns

Grizzly policy in BC is determined by the BC provincial government. Land claims with First Nations are more difficult, as they typically involve multiple levels of government and a lot of lawyers. Here in the Yukon we have a few land claim settlements still outstanding, and all parties...

    Dall sheep status southern yukon

Yep, we can hunt anywhere an outfitter operates. Some areas (like Mervyns) see a lot of locals, others do not see anywhere near the same amount of local pressure due to proximity to whitehorse. Some outfitters go so far as to threaten to pull their business from any float plane operation that...

Quilt choice for NWT August 1-10

I'd go with the katabatic. First week of August I've had Temps over 30 C, and just above freezing with snowstorms.

    Canoe Barrel Harness/pack info

I haven't had good experiences with Level 6 and Granite Gear barrel harnesses. We used to use barrels for float moose hunts and guided a few fishing trips on the Coppermine River with them. The Level 6 and Granite Gear harnesses were always the first to break in my experience. All of the...

    Future of Gunsmiths in Canada

If you're looking to work on AR's and pistols the future definitely isn't very promising. If you want to work on bolt guns and shotguns you should have no end of work. I looked into becoming a smith when I got out of high school. I was talked out of it...wish I wouldn't have listened. A lot...

    European La Sportiva Question

Curious if there is anyone out there that has experience with the European La Sportiva models, specifically the Karakorum Evo GTX, Karakorum HC GTX, and Nepal Trek Evo GTX? Need a new pair of sheep hunting boots and these have piqued my interest. Please let me know what your likes/dislikes...

    300 WM Scope Recommendation

In my experience Leupold is statistically more likely to fail. I've owned 4 Leupold scopes and the vx3, vx5 and mark 5 I owned failed in some form. Being in Canada, the customer service was not exactly stellar, although once the Korth group took over warranty claims it did improve. A number of...

    2 person Trekking pole tent

Own a Stratospire Li and an X-Mid, and have a buddy who has an Anaris. While the Anaris is built like a brick shithouse, I don't think it does anything special over the other two to justify the jump in price (and I say this as guy who owns a few Hillebergs). Between the Stratospire and the...

Transport from Vancouver airport to hotel?

Which hotel are you staying at? The sky train is cheap and easy. It also leaves right from the airport.

    Lightweight puffy jacket

I've got the Montbell altiplano (japan site only), the alpine down parka and used to have the Plasma 1000. From Cumulus I've got the incredilite endurance and one of my hunting buddies bought the mountlite at the same time. Also I used to have a katabatic tincup, which I found a little too...

    Lightweight puffy jacket

I'm in Canada. The shipping to Whitehorse was fairly reasonable. Just looking at my receipt for a sleeping bag I bought a little while ago, they charged me $19 USD for shipping to Whitehorse through DHL.

    Lightweight puffy jacket

My montbell and cumulus puffy coats have held up better than my kuiu. I've worn them while doing camp chores between clients and I've also worn them quite a bit in the off season around town. I also found the kuiu had more down leakage than any of the mountaineering brands.

    Lightweight puffy jacket

Cumulus, high grade down, light weight, less expensive and better than any of the hunting brand puffy jackets I've owned. I'd put Montbell and Katabatic right in there too. I went a little overboard with puffy coats a while ago and tried a bunch.

    Dall sheep status southern yukon

Here is the release of some of the sheep survey data for the Kluane Lake region (https://yukon.ca/sites/yukon.ca/files/env/kluane_region_sheep_population_surveys_2023_-_summary.pdf). Wait and see what YG proposes, historically they have reduced resident and outfitter hunting opportunities in...

    Dall sheep status southern yukon

The SW Yukon around Kluane lake has seen the biggest declines in their sheep populations. We've had a few years of heavy snowfall that resulted in some tough winters for sheep in those regions. YG is now discussing bringing in some adaptive management for zones in the SW for the 2024 hunting...

Thinking of a new sleeping bag

I don't think you would find a lot of difference between FF or WM, they both make great bags. I own a few bags from both and wouldn't hesitate to buy from either company again. Even when I have needed repairs both companies have been great to deal with. I would add Cumulus equipment to the...

    Sky Talus vs Kifaru Fulcrum

A few years ago went through the same decision. I bought a fulcrum, SG sky talus 6900, and an exo k3 and tried them all out. I liked the fulcrum, it was a very well made bag but I just couldn't get it comfortable with any weight in it. I ended up going with the Stone Glacier because it (and...
