Here's a follow up for this thread. I posted some of it on the 2024 meat pole thread.
So, the back surgery went well and I'm mostly recovered but did have a set back of getting gout twice in the knee that took me down for a few hard weeks. I never even knew what gout was but I sure don't want...
I watched a few bucks get chased all over the place by some yahoos in an HVAC truck driving thru the walk in access area I was hunting. I waited until sunset and was able to close the distance to 100 yards on the smaller meat buck. I'm happy since I really only had a short evening and next...
Ok, looks like a golden rod is in my future. They say a 12" is enough for my safe but I'll likely toss in a 24" to be safe. Hopefully it's not too much for the space. I can likely keep the unheated storage area warmer by blocking off the exterior vent and maybe insulating the exterior walls...
I'm moving soon to a place that doesn't have many options for storage. The 42" wide fat boy will need a home and so far the only places I can fit it in will be an unheated storage room or the garage which is moderately insulated but will have high humidity with parked vehicles dripping snow off...
I moved to Utah 22 years ago from Louisiana. I was straight out of college and planned on a LEO job but got convinced by my uncle to take a year off and enjoy ski bumming. It was supposed to be one winter but I'm still here. There's more recreation out here than back home. The food was...
I'm not who you responded to but I'll add that i'm in a similar position. I have enough powder and components to get me through. I'll load when I need to and buy for now. There's good quality ammo available at reasonable (today's) prices. If I factor in my time, the ammo is the better deal...
If you're just using it for archery it's a bit overkill. I tend to use the Maven and Leica I have for rifle. For archery it's bulky and loud (button click) compared to other systems I've used. I still have a Leupold 1200 I'm using for archery but I wouldn't say it's the best thing out there...
I've had great luck with some of the higher initial cost barrels. So far, I'm 0 and 6 with low cost button rifle barrels. Once I found a good smith and started buying blanks the lead times went down and the cost after the purchase went down. My time is valuable and the amount of it plus...
I've been doing something like this for years and even mentioned it here once. 2 shots and done. One cold bore and an immediate follow up to the same POA. I can take all the data from years of dope and gain a realistic field condition proofed expectation of mine and my rifles capability in a...
My preferences:
From the truck window, angled only.
Standing with tall tripod, straight.
Standing with short tripod, angled.
Sitting or standing sideways, angled.
Sitting same elevation as target, straight.
Sitting with target above, angled.
Sitting with target below, either.
My goal is...
