Does the 6.5 PRC have enough ass?

My rule of thumb is whatever distance I practice at the range I cut that in half while hunting. Targets don’t move and if you make a bad shot on a target it’s no big deal. Having lost an elk I can tell you it’s a horrible feeling. I shoot steel out to 1200 but even to shoot 600 in the field I...

    Kifaru Gnargali VS Hoodlum

I never ran the hoodlum but I have the gnargali and its and awesome pack. I could easily fit enough gear for 5-7 days and I'm not a big fan of zippers. As long as your not a zipper guy I think you'll love it

Let's See Your Semi-Custom Tikka Builds

I like it! I like the ergonomics and how easy it is to get behind. There are some areas with the finish that could have been more refined but nothing that I would knock it for

Let's See Your Semi-Custom Tikka Builds

I like it, it shoots great so far. I haven’t had a chance to really work up a load for it but this was 3 shots with 145gr LRX which is better than I do most days

    AKEK backpack

I'm from Canada as well and was looking recently, I ended up going with Kifaru just because you can order in from a dealer in Canada. Moving up from my Sh!tty old packs I've used before I'm pretty sure anything would be an upgrade, but for what its worth the Kifaru is built like a tank and the...

    Exo Mountain K4?

The one thing I will say about the horn hunter is they sent me new buckles really quick which is not something I’m use to up in Canada. Been running a mystery ranch Pinter since then which hasn’t been bad but not great either. Now to step up and try something else, leaning towards the K4 or...

    Exo Mountain K4?

I believe it, I done the same thing in a horn hunter pack and that sucked so much. By the end of it I more or less had it secured to the frame with paradord because all the buckles kept breaking. Weight on my meat scale when I got home it was right at 156lbs and that was the last time I ever...

    Caliber for Daughter??

Another vote for the 7mm-08, I’ve taken everything from yotes to moose and although it’s not my main choice for moose or elk I never once felt undergunned.

Razor HD LHT or other choices for 6.5PRC Seekins Havak Element

I have a LHT on my 6.5 prc and haven’t had any issues. It returns to zero when dialling, rides in the back seat of my truck or on my atv and has yet to change poi. Some guys hate them but I’ve been impressed.

    Christensen Arms Ridgeline Reviews

I have a 280ai ridgeline that easily shoots under .5 moa if I do my part and a 6.5 prc mesa that I just bought and haven’t shot yet but I have no doubt it’ll be a shooter as well. Of the two, aesthetically I prefer the Mesa but that’s just me. My only complaint is the bolt could be a little...

Does anywhere compare to Newfoundland for opportunity and cost?

I’m from Newfoundland but now live in Alberta and I would highly recommend Alberta. I think the trophy quality is better plus you can get tags for deer, elk, and bear so if you tag out for moose in day one you have something else to hunt. As for the booze and Mary Jane unfortunately it can be a...

    Newfoundland moose hunt

I’m originally from Newfoundland and you’re going to want good rubber boots. Depending what part of the island you’re hunting a good pair of waterproof leather boots may work for most of your hunting but I’d carry a pair of high rubber boots or hip wadders because you will need them at some point

    How Would You Respond?

Whenever I take a “new” hunter out I never send him off on his own. Tracking animals can be hard enough for a veteran hunter let alone a new one. Plus with adrenaline pumping people do stupid things, be thankful he didn’t go shooting like a mad man at every elk that ran after he thought he...

    Is 308 good enough

If you don’t hand load I would look for some 150gr cx hornady superformance. It’ll carry enough velocity out to 400 yards to expand and will penetrate deep enough from any angle.

    Alberta Elk Hunters

You’re hooked now lol, I was 3 or 4 years before shooting my first one and once I found a spot with elk and no people I’ve got an elk every year since. Good luck the rest of the season, I’m tagged out but still have to get my wife out for her elk

    Alberta Elk Hunters

Welcome! I’m a fellow Albertan myself, a little further North I would guess. Joining an archery club is a great idea, I found once I joined I ended up shooting way more and especially way more 3D which helped with my in field shooting. Shooting a target in your back yard or a field is great...

    How many shots ? ?

I've shot or been a part 15ish elk hunts and most of them have been 1 shot kills with rifles ranging from 6.5 to 338. My last two were 1 shot kills, 5x5 bull at just over 300yards with a 7mm-08 and 140gr federal fusions and a cow at 412 yards with 338 win mag and 225 shock hammers. If both were...

    Elk Rifle

In my opinion the higher the magnification the more you're going to want to zoom in when shooting, which is fine if you're shooting at targets but when it comes to animals I always tend to lean for the 3-9, 3.5-10 or 3-15. If you have a shot at 30 yards and the lowest your scope will go is 6x...

Which rifle should I take on my Alaskan moose hunt in September?

after seeing tons of moose, elk, deer, bear and caribou shot, I was one of those guys who always shot either a bonded or mono bullet. A few years ago I watched a buddy shoot his bull elk with a 147gr eldm at right around 150 yards and that bull didn’t take a step. It’s all he hunts with although...
