Live in SW MO but hunting SE KS. Picked up a lifetime tag while living there after college - best investment I ever made (and I'm a stockbroker!).
Hunt public land but it holds some good deer. Plan to commit a week in Nov. before rifle season shuts em down.
Found 3 new spots last year. Went...
I couldn't agree more. I am fortunate to have a brother that wants to hunt just as hard as I do. We're relatively new to western hunting though, and we're a little leary of getting in over our heads. Our rifle hunts with family are in groups, but I think we're discovering that in order to...
This is a great point. It really depends how much you move. I have to dress pretty warm for treestand sitting in the midwest. However, I've been on pheasant hunts in western KS when the windchill was single digits and all I needed was a baselayer and microtex shirt.
For western hunting it...
For those interested in donating I have a little advice from my experiences. I live in Joplin, MO where an F5 tornado destroyed a lot of the town about a year ago. We've learned A LOT from the experience. We had more money than you can imagine flow into our community. I am the chairman of...
I've got the Outdoor Edge set. The guy doing the work will just about drive you crazy, but he actually does a pretty good job. They are pretty long videos as he really takes his time. He shows how to debone an elk rather than quarter, but now that I understand that it's all I want to do going...
My brother has a 270WSM and I have a 7MM, both in Weatherby Vanguards. They are nearly identical in every aspect - ballistics, recoil, weight, accuracy. The differences I see are a greater bullet selection in the 7Mag along with easier reloading. We have not had any feed issues with his gun...
I believe I recall BB saying one time that the worst thing he ever did for optics viewing was learning how to see CA. I'm afraid that's going to happen to me now. Pretty soon I'll be forced into the really expensive glass because I know what to look for. Thanks a lot BB!!
The 450T is for the entire US. However, it's only 100k scale, where the huntinggpsmaps are 24k scale (more detail). It's nice to have the topo info when making trips and needing road/highway information. One advantage of the T is a larger internal memory. It doesn't make any sense to me why...
I couldn't agree more. I hate this about my iPhone. However, I've found that my 450T works great with the thinner gloves on. It's not really the same touchscreen as the iPhone that most people would expect.
I used to have an eTrex Vista HCx and it worked great, but the 450T allowed me to add...
Actually, I believe that product shows the land boundary data on google earth (for scouting purposes from home). For seeing satellite imagery on your gps device you'll need Garmin's Birdseye subscription as BB said.
That's really cool, and says a lot about Robby. I'm impressed.
I have a weakness for donuts in general, but K.K. are fantastic. Our church sold a bunch last Sunday for a fundraiser, and my wife was in charge. We got "stuck" bringing home the leftovers - 3 dozen to be exact. I figure I...
My wife enjoys the lake and we go fishing together whenever possible in the summer. I love all hunting and fishin so I try to focus on the activities she enjoys when possible.
She doesn't care for hunting, though. I've invited her many times and she's gone a couple. She'd rather be shopping...
Dedicated GPS here as well. I've really considered the phone option, but I just don't think it's quite ready. The battery life and ruggedness are big drawbacks for me. Also, I can use my GPS with gloves on.
I do think the phone is quickly replacing the GPS units for auto-navigation, however.
Lots of plugs for Dave Ramsey. I agree wholeheartedly. I have also seen several comments about student loans and imagine there are many folks dealing with these things - even those not-so-recently out of school. Disclaimer: I must be very limited in advice I give online due to strict...
