I love Stone Glacier, been using their packs since I bummed a demo in the early days. But dang there are about 5,000 softshell pants on the market from reputable makers (Arc'teryx, Rab, Westcomb, Patagonia, NW Alpine etc.), many of which can be had in earth tones. If your thing is ultralight, I...
FS: Western Mountaineering Lynx (-10*) MF, Long--SPF
Western Mountaineering Lynx (-10*), microfiber shell, long (6'6"), excellent condition, comes with storage bag and stuff sack. Always stored lofted, non smoking home. Would be tough to tell from new. Used very lightly; I haven't been...
I know what I'm doing and also go where few can. I saw roughly 25% of the bucks I've seen in previous years. I did find a large buck to hang a tag on, but the second best buck I saw during rifle was maybe 150". I too will keep hunting it because it's the kind of terrain that makes me happy, but...
On 3-5 day backpack hunts I don't always take a hard shell for one thing. There are lots of times where mixed conditions are repelled easily enough with a softshell that has a decent DWR. When pushing hard in less than very wet weather, the right softshell is weather repellent enough, but...
The answers really depend on what your priorities are. Antler size? Mountain hunting adventure? Seclusion? Number of animals spotted?
Comfortable camp? There are lots of cool places to hunt, but you can't really have it all.
To me the pros of synthetic uppers are primarily weight and in some cases quicker drying, though there's more to that than the upper material. The big con is they consistently wear out more quickly.
These would be sooooo nice for ice climbing. No help, except that I've exercised Outdoor Research's warranty a few times and they've been great about it; if they weren't I'd be much less likely to try a high tech glove with that price tag.
I had an Enan for a while. The primary differences compared to the Akto are a higher cut on the fly bottom, a mesh door, fabric strength/weight, and 1 stake-out point on the ends instread of 2. The Akto will be a shade warmer, but only marginally if any more stable in wind and snow. Despite...
My wife and I have a heavier Exped double but not the duo so no help there. As to your efficiency question; as far as the quilt is concerned it's a surface area:loft ratio issue. A double quilt that's pulled in like a mummy bag would likely have a slight edge, but there is generally a lot of...
I should add that I didn't jump into light hikers for heavy loads cold turkey. There were a lot of mountain miles from just hiking and summer backpacking to adjust. I now wear trail runners for all summer hiking and that helps build and maintain strength. A couple of years ago I did 50 miles in...
I have used trail running boots for hunting for about the last 10 years, with a lot of heavy loads and successful backpack hunts. I have a nerve condition that results in deteriorated myelin sheaths and extremely high arches; and therefore high ankle roll risk. I used to use the Inov-8 400 390...
Patagonia Nano Air Light Hoody is what I'd be after; similar niche to the Atom LT but higher CFM by all accounts. Atom LT is great too for sure, just not as breathable if you want to use it as a cold weather active layer. It will act more similarly to Primaloft One/Gold. A couple more options...
You may have to monkey with sizing...legit belay pants are designed to be tossed on over everything, not as a mid-layer. On a budget I'd be looking at sale or used Mountain Hardware. Hope you find what you're after.
