    SWFA, what’s the deal?

Well... I ordered a second one just from the words of encouragement from this thread. 😅

    SWFA, what’s the deal?

I wonder if they actually do have some in stock but have not adjusted the second part of the website? Who knows... But let's hope they fill all backorders with this last shipment! I tried to email to ask and the email doesn't exist anymore apparently.

Members opinions of the Winchester Mod. 70?

I have three M70s. A family heirloom Pre-64 in 30-06. I managed to find two of the Ultimate Shadow USA made M70s. One in 30-06 and one in 308. The 308 was unfired NIB. They aren’t as beautiful as the wood stocked versions., but they are very utilitarian and accurate. That said, my Tikka 308...

    Painless load development (mine)

This is an amazing thread again! I used to do a similar strategy for load development and then started reading (again) too much internet processes. Next thing I know I’m annealing after each firing, cleaning brass, doing ladder loads, trimming and measuring each, debuting, cleaning primer...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

@Formidilosus Any similar recipes for 73gr ELD-M? I’ve seen TAC at 25gr and 2.26 OAL as well as 8208 at 23.7.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

This is seriously one of the best threads I have read on any forum. The only other one that is close is the one on AFCOM by the Battlefield Las Vegas owner (Ron) about what works and doesn’t work under their facility conditions (full auto fire and close to 30k rounds in each AR per month)...

Equipment versus practice posts and Rifle practice/shooting

I grew up with Phil. It was wild to see he became a Marine Corp Sniper and then a super respected PRS instructor. Pretty amazing watching experienced shooters of their thing. Clearly lots of reps

WTB Kids binos that don't suck

I would try to find some 6x or maybe 8x. My 5 year old (big for his age) has trouble stabilizing the binos at 10x. I can adjust the eye cups and the IP enough to fit, but he can't manage to be still in a way to use them at all effectively.

    FORMADILIOUS.........I'm calling you OUT!!

Ok now that I've been educated by previous threads. A possible replacement, though not exactly the same traits, that I've been looking at for a while is something like the Ruger American Ranch 5.56. 16" barrel, threaded, takes AR style mags, about 6.2 lbs. Can be set up as a scout rifle (with...

    FORMADILIOUS.........I'm calling you OUT!!

Ok I feel like a total noob here. Do share if there was something previous about Rokslide combo #1? Is this for training or general purpose medium to small game? I feel like I missed something pretty key here.

    Predator hunting safety with kids

Got it! I just re-read the regs to confirm. Thanks for the info!

    Predator hunting safety with kids

Got it! Thanks for the info. I run a 1.5-8 power scope since I hunt the coast range mainly. But I see what you’re saying about having some 12 gauge OO buck on hand. Other than the weight. I would certainly rather have a shotgun with buckshot ready for the walk out. Although, can you only...

    Predator hunting safety with kids

Funny piece is that I grew up in Alaska. And obviously grizzly were always a concern, but I’m more scared of wolves. I feel similarly to lions around here. I just get damn nervous about those lions.

    Predator hunting safety with kids

Good point! I have never heard of anyone getting charged by predators while hunting. I am quite sure it happens, but you make a good point that it is probably significantly more dangerous driving out to the woods than the hunting risks. I just want to make sure I'm thinking clearly and not...

    Predator hunting safety with kids

Thanks for that. I know that my 5 year old is definitely too small for a shotgun for now. I’m fine being the shooter. I just have this fantasy in my mind that I shoot one and then it charges me for some reason. For the 55gr, are you using like a V max or something like an all copper bullet? I...

    Predator hunting safety with kids

What sort of load are you using for a .223? I plan to play it safe if I were to do it. My kid loves hunting so much and I think it would be a good experience to get a bear or lion, but also, I can’t tell if I’m over thinking the risk of predator hunting.

    Predator hunting safety with kids

Hi all! Slow deer and bear season so far here in west Oregon. Been thinking about getting an electronic call and try to call in a bear or lion. The only snag is, I mostly hunt with my 5 year old or solo. So my question is, what do y’all think about if electronic calling and predator hunting...

    What are you seeing?

Thanks for that! I’m going to keep pressing on. We usually can only cover around 2-3 total miles before he’s pretty wrecked. May try some bike/trailer options. I may squeeze out some solo hunts, but he really wants to be with if we can connect with an animal. After we get through this smoke...

    What are you seeing?

This is great intel roosie! I think I’m just not doing it right…. Haven’t seen squat over in the Alsea Unit (literally one spot had scat). I think I need to refine my approach a little more. I’m going to try glassing more/longer and making sure I’m out until last light (or first light). Been...

    What are you seeing?

Thanks for that tip Roosie. I’m going to try an entirely new area in a heavily logged coast range unit to see what I can see. I don’t have good intel on skunk cabbage spots on public land or timber access lands that aren’t heavily traveled (e.g. a swampy logging lake on the side of the road)...
