Black Diamond Brand Ambassador Caught Stealing Tree Stands and Trail Camera

Let it play out in court. I grew up in that neck of the woods, did a lot of climbing in the canyons, and know a lot of good guys that climb. It's not really a BD issue at this point in time, and it wouldn't be right to try and make it a BD issue, absent some other facts.

    High school football

It occurred to me football isn't the only sport where tough decisions have to be made. You have to protect your children, because they will almost always choose glory over their own future health. My oldest son, now in college, was a very good baseball player. He was a starting pitcher from age...

    High school football

Yeah, that's the other thing I remember about the Army - had a friend who was top of his class in college, a natural leader, and he was disqualified from serving as an officer due to football injuries sustained in high school. Brain injuries are just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know many...

    High school football

In the Army I admired some of my fellow officers, former football players. They displayed a love of hard work and genuine teamwork. Having said that, I would never let my boys play football. Jason Hairston just died, and he struggled with CTE for years. He was still a vibrant, young man. Doctors...

New Nikon Mirrorless Full Frame Cameras

Sony makes great cameras. But they're not known for ruggedness and weather sealing.

What's the build quality? That's always been a weak point for Sony.

    San Juan Wilderness Bill

The proposed additions to existing wilderness look fairly small, but we'll need all the clean water and open space we can get by 2050.

    Backpack muzzleloader hunting

This is basically my strategy and it's worked well. I also take a zip lock baggie with a bunch of wet cleaning patches.

What non-hunting brands have you found for hunting that have become ‘go-to’ pieces ?

Patagonia. Fits me well and I like to throw a few colored garments into the mix - hasn't hurt my hunting or fishing at all and makes for better photos. Kinda getting tired of seeing guys in all-drab outerwear.

    Kifaru Weights

I hope Kifaru makes another simple bag like the Markhor in the future. I also have a Warrior and while it carries a lot of gear, the straps drive me crazy. For me its not about the weight. I just like simple.

Utah senator Mike Lee - attacking Public Lands

It's public land and it's definitely our business to comment on this. As a Utah native, I don't like the short-sightedness of Utah politicians. It's all about private money interests. What's humorous is the large number of conservatives (people that would never have the money to go hunting on a...

Etiquette and common sense when asking about hunting areas/information on Rokslide.

You didn't say whether you ever saw my website. Probably not. I don't do social media at all, and I never named actual locations. I actually encouraged people to do their own homework and talked more about experiences and techniques. My website was more about mountain adventure in a general...

Etiquette and common sense when asking about hunting areas/information on Rokslide.

This is a real interesting issue. I don't ask people for actionable information. If I do have a conversation with a guy about his hunting area, I don't use the information personally. I used to maintain a website, Crazytrekker.com, where I posted trip stories and pics from my outings in...

Anyone listen to Steve Rinella's interview with Rob Bishop?

Jack, I'll sidestep your ad hominem attack. The underlying issue is incredibly important, so much so that I'd caution against being too PC about it. If an elected leader or committee member has an inherent bias (especially an inherent bias that may be anti-science) then guess what, we get to...

Anyone listen to Steve Rinella's interview with Rob Bishop?

Twall13 - I can agree that not all Mormons think that way. It's not fair to judge an individual base upon a stereotype. Appreciate your thoughts. You do seems to agree with my general assessment of the culture, where folks are somewhat ambivalent about politics. Mormons are great - they have a...

Anyone listen to Steve Rinella's interview with Rob Bishop?

I applaud anyone who managed to get through the entire interview. I have a hard time listening to Bishop. Kudos to Meat Eater for putting Bishop on display. Having grown up in Utah, I wonder how many people realize members of the LDS faith like Bishop believe the Earth will be "returned to it's...
