This thread reminds me of the SOP in my old unit, which included carrying an extra pair of combat boots in our large alice packs. Haha, carrying an extra pair of leather boots everywhere you go..... Seems like the distant past, compared to wearing a pair of Vasque hiking shoes and not giving a...
Knight returned my call. They took care of me.
It's my understanding from talking to them that the lightweight stock gun rod (carbon core) is really intended to be used only during the hunt. That rod is held together on the inside by glue, which is probably what failed on my rods. I got the...
Looks like a SpinJag on a giRAMROD (sold separately) will fit the bill. It is an aluminum ramrod and should be more durable than the stock Knight ramrod, if slightly heavier.
I backpack hunt in Colorado with a Knight Ulta-Lite (western configuration). The weapon has been fantastic in almost every way; lightweight, accurate, easy to shoot, elk killer.
But I've had two stock ramrods fail me. Luckily both rods have failed while at home cleaning the weapon. Both...
I'm excited to see where Garmin takes this. For now, I'll continue using a Delorme SE and a Garmin Foretrex 401. I have a lot of experience plotting MGRS (military grid reference system) and UTM coordinates, so I don't need mapping in my device. At some point in time I am sure I'll be wowed...
It had been a while since I'd gotten my backcountry skis and Kifaru pulk out of the garage, so I made a quick overnight run on the Grand Mesa.
Had a blast and will be going again soon.
Hope all you pulk pullers are having a great winter!

I've done three or four backpack elk hunts with my Savage lightweight hunter in 7mm-08. Great rife, very light, and very accurate with a little lightweight 3-7x Leupold scope.
Hey Paul, sorry I missed this post. Haven't been on this thread in a long time. The job is good, thanks!
Great pictures. You must have the 7-14 2.8??? Great pics! Shows what a little Olympus can do. I really love my E-M5 II.
Hope you're having a great season.
Eric
I see your point and don't have any qualms with it, except you might run into the same hunters again tomorrow. For me, a 5-minute conversation and a little bit of coordination isn't a waste of time. At least these responses are somewhat informative regarding differing points of view.
Question for you bow hunters: Why do some bow hunters actively attempt to hide from other hunters? Is there a perceived tactical advantage if they don't know you are hunting the same area?
Background scenario: I was bivy hunting (muzzleloader) in the West Elk Mountains this week. There were...
