They are not picky at all, they will eat anything growing, and they get most of their water from the grazing they do. Unless it was extra hot, they usually refused their daily water.
I have been using llamas for the past 6 seasons. I rent them out of Livermore CO. We rent 3, along with the stock trailer, panniers, and other nesseities. They will carry about 60-80 pounds per animal, they can go places horses and mules can't, and require no food/grain or water to brought with...
My wife has been my backcountry elk hunting partner for the past 5 seasons. She was always a camper/hiker, I got her into archery, then deer hunting, and now the backcountry hunting. She always looks forward to our hunts.
I go Sitka merino as base Traverse over that then 90% as a finish. I carry the Kelvin for a little extra warmth when glassing or just napping. This is CO in late September.
I like the Kenetrek Hardscrabble Lites. I tried the Asolo's, can't rember which one, and they didn't have the support that I feel I get from the Kenetreks. They also leaked almost as soon as it rained. I go with the Lathrop and Sons insole as well.
The only item I am looking at for next season is a Kifaru 8 man tipi and stove. It would be nice to have a warm dry place to wait out the heavy rains and dry the gear.
