Be safe in the last bit of your deployment. The first part and last part seemed to have the most casualties during my multiple combat deployments.
Send me your email and I will send you my personalized 10 day Sheep hunt gear list. 20 years of tweaking at it seems to work for me.
On your hunt...
I used the Tigerwall with my first client last year in the NE Brooks. First time using it so it was my personal shelter. Client I provided a known tent that had been used on previous years hunt (Big Agnes Fly Creek II)
The Tigerwall’s design IMO was horrible. Zippers allowed rain/condinsation...
In all seriousness you have to ask yourself this ONE question before headed down this “heavy for caliber” bullet selection that is honestly a fad that will eventually run its course in the rifle building world.
How far are you going to shoot at game with this set up? If it is under 700 yds...
I plan to do one as well in the near future. As far as SAMMI goes it is 3.34” and factory ammo could go without any modifications.
I chose the PRC over the Nosler just to see if it could be done without a huge hassle. At the end of the day the Nosler might be the easier option though.
If you are going prefit barrels I would go with the 300 WM or WSM. The PRC option and reasons to use it, you won’t get that with a prefit chambered barrel. They will be SAMMI or very close to SAMMI OAL.
If I only had one or two rifles, no I wouldn’t build a PRC. I would build a 300 WM if shooting factory ammo.
30/338 (308 Norma mag) for a handloader.
I own 7 Tikka’s so building something unique is my decision to build the 300 PRC. It clearly can be done with the stuff out there if you know...
Even in a Tikka a 300 PRC handloaded to an OAL to fit the action of 3.4” is going to outperform a 300wsm loaded long and a 300 WM in all bullet weights.
You are not saving any overall weight going with a 300 wsm over a 300 PRC since action lengths are the same in a Tikka.
I also have a Tikka T3 Stainless Steel in 338 I would sell for $600. I have a McMillan Game Warden stock non painted cut for a Proof Sendaro or another Game Warden stock cut for a factory T3 Barrel contour that I planned to build on this rifle. They are for sale as well without the 4 month wait...
I have two brand new never fired take off Kimber 8400 Montana 338 barrels if you find any 8400 long action magnum. You can have it no charge other than shipping. Very easy ( about $100) headspace and fit. I’m up in Fairbanks and will be down to Anchorage this weekend. Let me know if you want it
It is 100 percent normal when replacing with a PT&G or any other aftermarket fire control system for the Rem 700’s. I’ve replaced at least 2 dozen using PT&G or Tubb Speed lock and they ALL have noticeable increased bolt lift requirement
You have not a clue what you are talking about. You say don’t hunt sheep or have a desire too but here you are reading and commenting on sheep hunts....in a dedicated sheep thread.
44 rams later and not one has been left to rot, or left on the mountain to go to waste.
It sure could turn into a sprint if your second or third shots are muffed up!!! My rule on shooting grizzly and brown bears......nothing under 50 or over 200 yds. Especially if a bear is above your position.
I normally am an optimistic person. With that being said it is looking like this may impact our early to mid Sheep hunts. Especially if we are still in lockdown by 1 May.
Alaska Fish and Game has already set the precedent this year on cancellation of non resident hunts. All non resident bear...
Stay out of GMU 19 and 20A with outfits on state land. Way too many commercial outfitters and is overcrowded.
Outfitters I’d recommend.
Draw areas in 14C Dan Montgomery
TOK Management Area Matt Snyder
“Native Land” Private Land concession Jeff Burwell
OTC Areas:
Brooks Range outfitters...
It’s illegall for a commercial outfitter to scout from the air and give that information to guides or clients for the purpose of taking that particular animal spotted ANYTIME. No pre-season scouting etc.
I don’t think my motive has ever been a secret Idahohikker. And the axe I have to grind with is the terrible overcrowded conditions both non residents and residents alike experience primarily in GMU 19 to some extent 20A.
Are you educated in our overcrowded conditions non residents and...
