Took my 10 year old son out for a quick hunt last weekend. He’s never been with me when I’ve filled a tag, so we looked over the bucks and went with the best one. 350 yards with the 145 LRX out of my 7 SAUM.
Hoping to get him squared away with hunters safety for next season!
Out of the two options presented, I’d go Ruger. The American rifles actually are pretty accurate. Smooth and refined? No, but at that price point, I wouldn’t expect it.
Sure the Tikka is nice, but if it’s extra money you don’t want to spend, buy the Ruger and be happy.
I think flush cups would suit you well.
It’s been a while since I had a factory Tikka stock, so not sure if there’s enough meat to support the install, but it’s worth a look.
Or you can purchase an aftermarket stock and have installed.
Suppressor.
But if opposed to that idea, the SRS brakes are pretty nice. I have one of their 2 port Ti brakes on a Seekins Element and it’s way easier to spot shots now.
Base of neck should drop it on the spot. Killed 3 animals with a 145 LRX last week (ranges from 350-580 yards) and performance was great. Two whitetail bucks dropped on the spot, bull elk was dead standing on his feet and dropped at the second shot.
If an animal gets you pumped when you see it, take it. If you’re not feeling it, nothing wrong with passing and looking for something different.
I just spent a week in Wyoming hunting elk, deer, and antelope. Here’s a bull I passed - definitely a killable position, but after studying him, he...
Origin is a great action. You'll really don't "gain" much by going with a TL3, SR3, etc. besides an integrated lug. I have a couple TL3s and enjoy them, but if I build another (read: when I build another), I'll probably save a little $$ and just go with an Origin.
One action I really like is...
For $10, I’d say it’s worth a try. Factory bolt knob is definitely a little small. I’ll probably pick one up to see how it works out. If it’s not great, I’ll send to LRI for their bolt knob install.
Took my 10 year old son out for a quick deer hunt the other night. He’s not old enough to hunt yet, but he had a great time and he’s looking forward to a euro mount in his room.
