The overall winner was Rusty Ulmer ….. Randy’s brother.
Of course, this correction doesn’t change the point you were making. It’s only meant to clarify. Rusty is a hardcore rifle hunter. Randy has gained his reputation through archery.
Looking at your pictures, it appears you’re bird hunting in South central AK. Which happens to be where I also hunt birds on skis. I’m surprised to hear you don’t ski with poles. From my perspective, the decreased efficiency of skiing without poles is almost as bad as wallowing around with...
Snowshoes excel in one area …. for people who can’t ski. Otherwise, skis are far more capable in essentially all terrain. There’s a reason people traveling in big mountain terrain aren’t on snowshoes. Using a set of ski crampons in icy conditions, will increase their capability even more. I’ve...
I normally wouldn’t post on this type of topic (buyouts, mergers, acquisitions, etc). However, in this this case I will. I’m a big Defiance fan. I’ve used their actions exclusively on all my builds. This news is really disappointing! My hope is that Bob will have very little influence on the...
If you’re looking for an addition to your 10x42 binos….I’d recommend a 15X bino mounted on your tripod.
If you really believe that any bull spotted will be less than 500 yards….you’re 10x42 binos are all you will need.
Great, I believe you’ll be happy with your decision to use flush cups.
Just to confirm / re-emphasize ….. the flush cups should be mounted on the LEFT side of the stock and not on the bottom of the stock.
See the image below:
(not my rifle)
Flush cups mounted on the LEFT side of the rifle (forend and butt stock) is the best solution.
Sling swivel studs mounted on the underside of the stock’s forend and toe of the butt stock is a hopelessly retarded way to attach a sling. Especially with a front heavy rifle…due to a long barrel...
This may seem like strange advice, but…. the only thing that works for me is to apply Neosporin into the ingrown area of the toe nail. I work the Neosporin into the affected area as much as I can. Applying Neosporin frequently until the ingrown toenail issue is resolved. I’ve recommended this to...
From my perspective a 6.5 CM is an anemic hunting cartridge, that is best suited for deer sized game, or smaller, inside 500 yards. Where it shines is using it as a high round count training rifle. Ideally set up using the same stock, trigger and scope as your hunting rifle. Use the trainer to...
I often hear people saying the 375 H&H is a cartridge for ‘shorter’ ranges. Admittedly, it’s not the best choice for really extended ranges. However, it’s very capable at reasonable hunting ranges.
For example, a 6.5 Creedmoor is thought of by many as a good cartridge for longer range shooting...
I’d recommend getting the Tactical frame, with composite stays. It sounds, from your previous posts, that you plan on carrying heavier loads. The slight increase in frame weight will be more than justified, by the pack’s ability to carry heavy loads. It takes mass to move mass. A pack is no...
The Seek Outside DST has been a great tarp!
I asked SO to modify my DST, by bar tacking Line-Loc 3’s, at each guy-out point.
For my stake / cord kit, I used MSR Groundhogs and Lawson Equipment Reflective Glowire.
From my perspective, I’ve figured out a good system for these tarps…..that...
^^^^this has also been my experience.
In my 20’s I was a wildland fire Hotshot. All the miles, carrying heavy loads (pack and saw), along with fitness running, caught up with me. My knees felt like they had been permanently damaged. Which caused me to get out of fire and pursue another career...
