Mark 6 vs ATACR

Hey guys I’m new to rokslide. I’ve got a choice to make between two optics. It will be going on my KAC sr15 14.5” barrel which I do mostly range work with and some long distance shooting (200-300) yards at some coyotes. I found a seller for a mark 6 1-6 optic which seems to be in really good shape with the crw 5.56 reticle for $2300 but I’ve also found a site selling nightforce atacr 1-8 with a badger ordnance 1.7 mount for $2900 out the door. I’m torn. I like the fov on the Leupold but the optic is older, less magnification but it’s $500-600 cheaper. What would you guys recommend? I contacted Leupold and since they obviously don’t make the mark 6 commercially anymore if anything were to happen to it that were unrepairable which I highly doubt would happen they would have to replace it with something “comparable” which I’m not a fan of. Any helpful advise is greatly appreciated!

NF is pretty darn tough to beat. However lots of individuals run the Mark 6 and love them both competitively and just for hunting. I would try both out if you can to compare.

Price wise you can find NF in mint used condition cheaper than you would think. A little research and I found a mint NF for much cheaper than new(even with industry discounts, etc).

NF atacr will have better glass and is one of the most durable scopes on the market. It would be my choice every time over a leuopy.

I would choose nf and for that price I would look at March 1-10. Also checkout Dark Lord of Optics on YouTube, very intelligent optical engineer who loves shooting and reviews lots of scopes. From what I’ve gathered from him only the leopold mk5 is worth a damn and nf needs to be purchased used to be worth it.

I will differ and say the leupold mk6. After running one for years on my sr15 I don't think there is a better pairing. The weight of the optic paired with the rifle makes for a very handy package. I have not been disappointed by it's performance even compared directly to something like the vortex razor gen 3 1-10.

A good option, but I am partial to having wind holds and FFP. Past about 400 yards having a reference for wind is nice.

The part of the tree you're using at 400 has wind holds.

I stand corrected. Not a bad tree at all. If one is okay with their holds onto being true on 8x. An issue for some but not all.

They are and they aren't. Since it's a mil reticle instead of a bdc, the subtends are always meaningful (and true), they just aren't 1:1 at any value other than 8x.

At every other power their 8/x times value where "x" is the current mag. So at 4x they're a 2 mil hold instead of 1. At 6x they're a 1.33 mil hold. It does require that you know where you are, and you can always buy this to make it not matter: https://www.optics-trade.eu/us/kahles-ballistic-turret-bt-k-18i-k-16i.html
