My boy got another one this morning same as yesterday. This was a small 8pt. 16" Tikka 223 with 77tmks over 24.2gr varget in starline brass. He bucked when shot and we watched him fall 25yds past that. For southern whitetails, not sure what else you would need. I think I'll be building a left...
Id have to check my notes on that when I get home but I think it's around 2600. None of my loads in this gun were ever really super quick even being close to pressure. I'll take a look at my log when we make it in from hunting this morning.
I typicallly blaze right through that and stick with G7. How does that functionality work with the bdx app? If I select custom curve it just says "1.000 CC". I didn't see it open up any other fields to edit. I'll have to read up on it. Not sure what it uses as a baseline but it does produce a...
Thank you. We loaded up a few together for this hunt. He picked the "one" and i wrote that on there for him. Got a picture of him holding it after he shot too. I thought it was fun.
He also passed on a very large 10pt because it stopped behind a tree while trailing a doe and all he could see...
Well I'm a believer now! My son shot a little button buck this morning at around 40yds. 77tmk, 24.2gr varget, cci450s, starline brass. Entrance was on left shoulder and exit was at the point of the right shoulder. Slightly quartered. The deer came up on it back legs and fell over never to get...
I feel like they're a great balance of everything you need. Glass isn't top tier but it's good enough. The rangefinding shines in my eyes, and I just hope they hold up.
So I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to AB. I don't have a Kestrel to run with it because I didn't feel like that was the...
Dave I'm in the same boat. Headed out Saturday for the youth hunt with my son and his .223 tikka with 77tmks loaded up. I've seen him punch bullseyes out of targets with the thing and yet I'm still nervous. I've never shot a deer with a .223 either let alone seen one shot with it.
I've...
I agree, even short walks in on private I keep it in my bag until I'm in the tree. That shit is way too warm. There's nothing better than knowing you can go out and not worry about getting cold. I got some heated socks that really round out the whole system.
The proximity isn't that warm...
What didn't you like about the fanatic? The only thing I don't like about it is that it's so warm and cozy that it puts me to sleep in my climber. It is quite bulky but I didn't take the proximity to be a replacement for the fanatic. Maybe more like a replacement for the stratus line which is...
I'm still a bit shocked at how short throated my sons Tikka compact is. It's been harder than I thought to find a good varget/77tmk load with the stock mag and throat. Good job throating it out to something a bit more useful. I wish I had the lathe to do that and didn't get crunchy reloading...
My son wanted to go hunt after Thanksgiving dinner 2yrs ago. He was 5. We went and sat on a fence line behind my inlaws hoyse watching a field. I had my M70 supergrade in 30-06 with me. This gun and I have never gotten along. But it's so beautiful in maple that I keep it around.
A doe hops the...
Well sounds like you have a good use case for them. I know in our deer woods here youre lucky to see 100yds. I still carry my 10ks with me though for sneaking on field edges.
Id try adjusting the magazine first to get the nose up. Last resort is to do some work on that feed ramp. Looks like that little bit of lip is what's killing you.
Do you have dual front swivel studs? If so, measure the spacing and order the arca/pic rail from salmon river solutions. If not pick the one you want and your going to have to drill out the stock and epoxy a nut in there. Not really a huge deal.
