Rifle advice for learning long range

Well if I wasn't a goofy looking dumbass who doesn't know that NE stands for Nebraska it would help. OP: My bad, Rifles Only is still the best you're going to get on this half of the country probably.

    Best picatinny rings?

I'm pretty intrigued by the Area419 Hunt rings that got released a week ago. They're about as expensive as NF rings but seemingly quite a bit different. When I get a dedicated hunting scope (instead of using my competition scopes for hunting) I might try them out.

    Long Range School (midwest)

Colemans is the one near me. I had an odd experience with trying to buy something from K&M that kind of turned me off them. Tried to buy an ACC Elite from them but their credit card processing company rejected my Navy Federal saying it was fraudulent. I talked to Navy Federal and they said that...

    Long Range School (midwest)

That's great to hear since I'm only 2 hours from them. They were my top pick for classes near me. How much do they harp on the fundamentals?

Rifle advice for learning long range

Can't stress this enough. OP, I envy you for being that close to the Rifles Only class that I linked. I'll likely end up traveling for one in the next year or two.

Rifle advice for learning long range

If you don't care as much about learning it in a strictly hunting context, that opens up a lot of options for courses. The Impact Shooting guy for instance (Pieter Malan) is a PRS shooter. If you're interested in learning that kind of LR shooting then you're in luck. Rifles Only actually runs...

Rifle advice for learning long range

That's a tough one to answer and it all depends on you. The total round count of those 3 courses you mentioned appears to be 750 rounds and you end up covering less material than most 3 day courses cover with half the rounds. Plus with those course fees you could pay for the course fee + travel...

    Reliable Two-Stage Triggers

Does the Mod22 trigger have overtravel? I briefly had an AI AT with the competition trigger which I think is made by the same company but I can't for the life of me remember much about it.

    Reliable Two-Stage Triggers

I haven't used mine yet outside of playing with it a bit. My LP Fuzion barreled action should be ready in the next week or so (I hope, will message builder soon) and it will get installed in that. And keep in mind that'll be a rifle used for PRS-style competition stuff. In the meantime I've been...

    Masculinity and Caliber Choice

Feedback for future troll posts: certain people get really mad when you (accurately) mention that competition shooters are way better at long range shooting than military snipers. Godspeed and good luck.

    Masculinity and Caliber Choice

The amount of restraint it's taking to not comment about the sniper school part. I'm basically Ghandi.

    Best picatinny rings?

I use exclusively ARC M-Brace rings now. In the past I've used NF Ultralite rings as well as Seekins rings. I much prefer the simplicity of the install for the ARC. If I was going absolutely crazy about it I'd maybe go with Badger steel rings but I don't think anyone here has a real need for...

    Reliable Two-Stage Triggers

That's a great description of the feeling. There are also some arguments that a lack of overtravel can cause you to minutely shift the rifle during followthrough but unsure whether that's a tangible thing for non-benchrest guys. I doubt it's something any of us need to worry about. You got me...

    Reliable Two-Stage Triggers

BnA is basically the anti-TriggerTech. I've found I hate the lack of overtravel on TT triggers. I sold off my Diamond and kept the Special as a spare trigger to have around in case something goes wrong. Also the TT only had adjustability for first/second stage weights and nothing else. The BnA...

    Reliable Two-Stage Triggers

Unsure on that one. There have been discussions about reliable two-stage triggers after this thread went dormant. Also Geissele says they're releasing a new version of the Super 700 trigger this year. Whether it's as good as the original, we'll have to see. One of the ones Form linked was this...

    Here's one for you!

How positive are you that your first shot hit the diamond? The occam's razor of this situation is that your first shot hit the bowling pin and you thought it hit the diamond. Then your other rounds went to the same place. Has that been ruled out?

    SHV F1 Mil XT Reticle?

I can't for the life of me figure out why they put that in the SHV line but not the MIL-C. Not that the MIL-C is a good hunting reticle either but at least it's not a christmas tree reticle.

    Gunsmiths in Oklahoma

You're right but still visually looks central-ish on a map.

    Gunsmiths in Oklahoma

This. If it's a custom rifle build, Stuteville Precision is top tier from what I hear and they're in Shawnee, OK wherever that is. Would likely want to base it on some flavor of Impact though.

    Riflescope Sunshade Yes or No?

They block light that is coming from things other than what the scope is pointed at. So functionally no, they do not impact anything negatively. Guides are very good at finding animals, among some other things. Knowing how scopes, bullets, rifles, etc work is not one of them.
