I just got the laponias and really like them. I have hunted with the crispi Colorado the last two seasons and wanted a lighter boot, laponis are definitely what you want. If they don't work for you elk hunting they will work for you in any other hunting situation.

I strongly suggest burris. The fullfield 2 with E1 BDC, just plug your numbers into strelok and you have firing solutions out to 500(depending on caliber, ect.) For under $250. Burris is the most overlooked scope on the market.
Sounds silly and is not how most people want to hunt them but you need to hunt low. Look for grass and keep it under 4500ft. But of course it depends on where you go, but there are generally bears everywhere.
