When doing ladder tests to find the nodes, I usually see that a super low single digit es /SD isn't usually the best grouping at 200 yds. Usually close by is a node with es/SD in the teens or twenties that groups best. But if I would shoot the Lowest es/sd node at 500 yards or further I would...

Velocities were about 3050. Real max was more like 63, I settled on 62.5 for a node, accuracy was about 1Moa, maybe slightly under. I then started messing with other bullets and powders. My barrel is a 1:9" 25" shilen. My gun definitely shot the 150 eldx alot better than the 162's...
It's good to see someone proposing solutions, rather than just pointing out the problem.
I think they should let you put in for tags and "wager" how many points you want to try to draw with. That way people who have built up 20+ points could hunt (2) 10 point tags and still get something for...
62.5 grains N160 was max for me with Federal brass. My old barrel liked N165, but this one likes N160. I really like those 2 powders for 7RM, but case fill isn't the best.
I agree with the above. It's sad that people monetize their knowledge and spread it all over youtube, so they can generate ad revenue for themselves while potentially screwing over all the other residents that hunt these areas. Lately there's been a lot of draw strategy talk. If your not...
I used them for a cow moose. I was happy with the results, good packaging. It was a little expensive, but I didn't have any way to keep a moose cool in September. I never give the butcher the backstraps or tenderloins either. They are too easy to butcher yourself. I generally butcher my...
There's a possibility the OTC tags go away in a couple years. If everything goes draw, having those points might make more units possible. The only thing consistent about CPW is they change things constantly!
Have loaded some for my dad's savage 99. Imr4895 or Imr/accurate 4064, with 150 grain pills. Haven't tried 8208xbr yet, but will some day. Last time I saw remington corelokt at the store it was $59.99, and I believe they only run it in batches, not all year round.
I have standard .223 dies, and they work for my bolt guy but not my AR. I had to buy the small base 5.56/223 die set. The regular .223 didn't size far enough down, close to the base
No experience with the outfitter, but the areas they hunt are incredible and very hard to access without pack animals. I believe they hunt the La Garitas, whereas powderhorn primitive hunts Cannibal Plateau. I'm not sure which outfitter hunts Independence gulch area, but there are camps in...
You lose your points if you don't apply for 10 years. WI shedhead has it figured out! It is impossible to draw 3 years in a row. You're only eligible after acquiring 3 points. So the best you could do would be every 4th year. Shoot the smallest cow you see, or one close to the road!
Typically the later seasons I don't call. After mid October elk don't talk much except to warn of danger. Maybe a cow call to stop an animal for a shot, but other than that I think calling just alerts them to your presence during non rut hunts.
I agree with 35whelenAI. I used to shoot nothing but accubonds and took plenty of elk with good results. I haven't seen 7mm accubonds anywhere in like 3 years. I switched to hammers and not looking back. I saw some 7mm partitions for $75/50 Count at Sportsmans. At that price , hammers are...
I'm very hesitant to try a Winchester powder, considering how bad their factory ammo is. Hopefully people will try it and post feedback online. If it's positive, add it to the list of unobtainable powders. I'm always pumped when I find a good load with a less popular powder.
