Paul went out of his way to connect me with one of his retailers who could get an otherwise scarce accessory shipped to me just days before season. The three FHF rigs run by our hunting party are all of impeccable quality and utility. And use a Large for 10x42 roof prisms.
Love my FHF. One silent, intuitive, smooth motion and you've got your glass handy. The harness wears like it isn't there. You literally forget you're wearing it, the weight forward is a pleasant offset to the weight on your back. Rangefinder rides nice too.
I used Lowergear this year with good results. They were significantly cheaper than some of the alternatives I researched. Diligent customer service, in my limited experience, and the unit arrived even a few days earlier than requested.
My solution was to fab a bracket for a clean install. If you're not afraid of some tools, my write up is here: DIY Quiver Bracket for use with HHA Optimizer
Gritty, functional mountain town. Not the charming, cozy mountain town. We use it as a logistics hub while hunting, and I have no dislike of the place, just don't expect your wife unit to fall madly in love with the place. Surrounded by lots of pretty country, though!
Octane Deadlock Pro.
Crazy lightweight, cutout foam under the hood to snuggle your broadheads, quick release with positive retention, save $50 compared to the TightSpot. Looks better too.
The Rangefinder/GPS cases buddy up to the FHF very well. It's hard to describe, they ride on the straps but don't "hang from them," per se. When you're wearing all the pieces it's all very secure about your body, but it still moves with you.
Tried this with my new set of binoculars, Vortex Diamondback 10x42. I could clearly pick out one of Jupiters moons, but that's all. We were above half of Earths atmosphere, which helps, but also looking through a glass/plexi sandwich, which hurts. And vibrating.
I'm an amateur, but have spent the winter totally preoccupied with the Prime vs. Elite choice. Be mindful of draw length, the current Prime lineup maxes out at 30" There are two ways around this: One is the quiet announcement of a longer limbed Rival for 2016 that will draw to 31", but is...
I'll second choosing the fleece over the softshell. I tried to make a softshell work for 3 years, finally said "screw it" ran the down puffy over fleece option last year and was much happier.
The softshell is of course a decent windbreak, but your Uncompahgre will do a superior job of that...
I've been pretty happy with the Sitka Mountain Pant. The tall works well for me at 6'1", but don't get the tall unless you need it, otherwise the (soft n flexy) kneepads might not rise to cover your kneecaps. Stretchy as all heck. I've been comfortable up to 80F degrees, and down to single...
www.kayak.com. It's a powerful and generally neutral engine. With specific flight identified I then go to the carriers website and book directly with them. Best not to have an intermediary if problems develop, and with an increasing number of "a la carte" airline options it only makes sense to...
