Pay someone $150 to steal you a decent spotter. I was in a similar boat last year but had a budget of $300. I looked at the Leupold Ventana and some Barska spotter.... You couldn't pay me $300 to carry those POS up the mountain.
I assure you there is nothing new for even double that budget...
I've heard the Badlands 2200 is a decent pack.... It must not be made at the same factory as the Super Day. Granted I overloaded the pack a bit but by the end of my trip there were so many seams that had ripped I don't know how it even held its contents. I've thought about giving the pack...
I was in the same boat last month. Initially had it narrowed down between the Meoptas and the Conquest HDs. I really liked the Meoptas but did not like the ergonomics at all..... Delayed the decision and researched for another week and decided to go back and buy the SLCs (hadn't even looked...
That resolution is incredible. I've done some digging to try and identify the best android device, seems that Samsung has batteries available that one can swap. Coming from an iPhone for the last 6 years I'm new to the array of options. Are there any other features that are must haves in your...
Thanks Bob. I think an Android OS with the BCN is my best options for the time being. A future in law actually works for ESRI as a GIS specialist... I have sent a request his way for some recommendations.
Had a 65 mm Viper HD but wasn't impressed with the higher magnifications. Now I run the little 11-33 x 50 and have been very impressed. I still need a bigger spotter when funds allow.... May pick up some 15x binos first to run off the tripod.
Thanks!
This is actually perfect timing! I'll be buying a new phone this month (it appears this is only available for androids?). Do you find that it renders a traditional GPS obsolete?
How does it affect your battery life? Do you utilize a Goal Zero or anything on extended trips?
I'm going to give up on this idea, it's more of a pain than it's worth. Do any of you fellas use high resolution satellite or aerial images in the field? I'd love to have topos, aerials, sunlight/shade etc. in the field to pour over at night back in camp. I've only been into the area a few...
I have backpacked in the Sierras for 20 years now.... All through the 90's it was a given that we'd have bears in camp. They've tore my friends soft top jeep apart, ripped the handles off our camper shell window, knocked our tent down with us in it, tore a backpack to shreds to get to coffee...
War Damn Eagle! My degrees are in Animal Science as well.
In regards to the politics, I've lived in the most liberal state in the nation and two of the most conservative. Neither end of the spectrum helped or hindered my passions for the outdoors. I can say this: regardless of the politics...
Uh oh.... An Aggie teaching at K state!? I went to Auburn (the real tigers ;)) for Undergrad and Grad school. My major prof was an Aggie and my judging coach a Wildcat.... Neither would let you forget it.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
If you're looking for a good Animal Science...
