After the old shoe is pulled, I take a hoof knife and clean out the rocks and mud. You'll really do a little cussin if you cut a flint rock in half with the hoof nippers. They cost about 100 bucks and dull easily. So I like the hoof clean before I trim
This pic is after I have cleaned the...
Don't be fooled by some website that the only place to get pack goats is from them. You have someone raising goats within 10 miles of your house.
Buy a young one and break it to lead. Break it to picket.
When he's broke to picket, he will still be at camp when you get back.

Speaking of farrier.....I nailed a set on my horse last night. His shoes have been on quite a little while. Mainly because I am lazy and it's hard work. I have been shoeing my stock for quite a few years. I am no professional believe me, but I can do it and it saves me $85 a whack.
This is the...
Your mule will be fine. Make sure your horses get along with her. Sometimes they don't. And keep the dogs and cats away from her. Mules will stomp their guts out. And baby calves too. Not all will, but some are just that way.
They say a mule will live its whole life just waiting to kick you...
If you go DIY and get lost, stuck, cold, wet, and miserable and don't see any elk well.....you never forget that either

These are 13rs. Plan is to find a great place to watch. If I can spot some I plan on watching them a day or so is that nuts? Then make a plan to kill.
It is archery. Leaving Sept 12 for 2 weeks.
This is just really new to me. My old spots were brush thickets at 9000. Couldn't see more than...
They weren't running half tons for sure. 3/4 and larger should have positive track differentials. It is no different than I would have done.
I have pushed snow for the state for 11 years and we only put 1 cable on the steer. Works great.

Usually pretty thick in the Aspen timber. Good place to bowhunt.
For first rifle I'd try to locate a park in between some Aspen and black timber. Somewhere I could see a good ways

I was 4 for 4 archery when I started. Then the 5th year the elk weren't where I left them the previous years lol. Didnt find them that year or the next.
Now I have switched spots and looking again. I have no idea what happened to my honey hole but it's a gar hole now.
My success has come...
Thanks for the second Paul. I am super excited to get above timberline. I cant believe I have elk hunted for this long without ever being that high.

We are headed to a new spot this year. As mentioned before I have never hunted above timber line. My thoughts are that a spot like this looks good. I have some snow pack and cool temps up high and they can come feed in the alpine that's not far. Does this look like something I should be...
I got my knee ripped in football 22 years ago. I was pretty stiff for about 6 weeks. Then back to new. Haven't had any problems since. I go hard all year. You'll be fine.
