We’re complaining because February 7th by decree one of our favorite pastimes became illegal for the next 3 months. Are people not allowed to complain about that? What should we have done before that?
Would you want hikers or bikers to have a season put on them?
Staggering hunts does help limit pressure, but won’t the shed closure do the opposite? May 1st the whole states gonna be flooded worse than the rifle deer opener.
No the majority that want wolves are not hunters I’d imagine. My...
Me personally I had a tag in 2020 I think and went out multiple times in December and January in the west desert and eureka area. I know some dude the other day before the closure posted up a shed he had found and then a cougar he had shot with his spot and stalk tag.
I agree with point 2. And I agree with point 1 that you can’t tell cougar hunter to stop because deer hunters want them too. I know I’ve heard of turkey hunters being upset by shed hunters ruining their sets but I don’t think they would try to ban shed hunting.
Your last point is interesting...
You make some good points in here. But legitimately if I’m out cougar hunting would I not also be on the winter range? Do cougar hunters not care about animals. I’m not trying to fool anyone about this. I’m sorry if everyone interpreted it that way. I’m just pointing out my problem with the way...
Yeah and some of the laws are tyrannical. Should we not be able to question certain laws? I’m glad Utah doesn’t have 10 round magazine limits like New York.
Look all I’m trying to point out is that to me “gathering”=“locating” or “marking locations” is a bad definition. Imagine if they decided that taking an elk meant “locating” or “marking locations” and if you’re out hunting and you “locate an elk” then legally you have “taken” that elk and have...
But if a person hikes with a gps tracker on them that’s not illegal is it? Do you want that to be illegal? Because that’s what the closure is trying to do and that’s why I have a problem with that. I thought this was America.
You don’t know me. I don’t want to shed hunt during the closure. I didn’t in 2017 and I won’t this time. I’m simply pointing out that if the definition of “gathering”=“locating” then that could be a slippery slope. Sorry I don’t trust the government and everything they say. A person shouldn’t...
That’s my problem. They could interpret someone lion hunting as shed hunting based on their definition of “gathering”. Sorry I didn’t know asking for clarification on that makes me a poacher apparently.
This is why I didn’t hike at all last time they closed it and why I probably won’t hike this time. My problem is this law discourages people to enjoy the outdoors for fear of being labeled a poacher.
I have emailed the UDWR director and am waiting for a reply.
Also why would they tell me to give them a location, that’d be against the law during the closure. I doubt they’d ask me to break the law.
Oh I understand it. They don’t want people in the woods during this time but they don’t have the authority to ban everyone so they are using this to circumvent the right way to go about that. I understand that “gathering”= “locating” to them and someone seeing an antler could be construed as...
My intent is to give some pushback on ambiguous laws that someone could break even if they didn’t intend too. And the way they worded it, that is certainly a possibility.
